If you’ve tried everything—from thickening shampoos to strengthening hair masks—but your hair is still thinning, we’ve got you covered.

We asked hair expert and stylist, Holly Dear, to spill the tea on hair oil for thinning hair and she answered all of the how-to’s, how often’s, and which-one you need to know.

Which oil is best for thinning hair?

"You want an oil that is clean and good for hair and scalp. A clean oil will allow your hair to take what it needs and not weigh your hair down and if it’s good for the scalp this will help hydrate your scalp and turn the thinning process around or slow it down. If your hair is thinning it is due to scalp health. I would recommend House of Dear Resurrecting Balm which liquifies to the touch into an oil or the Mays Chia correctional scalp and hair oil."

When should it be used and how often?

"Depending on your needs, but in general every time you shampoo."

What is the best way to apply the hair oil?

"After shampooing emulsify into the scalp with specific concentration on thinning areas and around the areas where the skin and scalp transition."

What are the benefits beyond thickening and strengthening thinning hair?

"Scalp health is important for hair health. The happier the scalp the stronger the hair. It is important to use a good shampoo and conditioner to begin with. Something that is clean and with active ingredients that help cleanse and hydrate. House of Dear wash and rinse are perfect to help cleanse and balance out your scalp with aloe that is a natural cleanser with tons of antioxidants to help with blood circulation and blood flow. Other active ingredients in the House of Dear wash and rinse are Rose of Jericho that strengthens and hydrates and sunflower seed oil that protects against free radicals and is a natural spf and thermal protectant."
