From special shampoos to thickening treatments, there are plenty of ways to try to make your hair thick and healthy. Maybe you already take collagen or use a strengthening hair mask once a week.

But when it comes to taking care of your hair and making sure it’s as strong as can be, you need to be using this one hair oil to achieve thicker, lustrous strands.

We asked hair expert and cosmetologist Ghanima Abdullah, and she gave us her hot take on hair oil. So if you’re using argan or coconut oil, you might want to swap it for this.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

Abdullah shared, “The best oil for thickening hair is pumpkin seed oil. It puts more hair follicles into the hair growth phase, which means you can see thicker hair near the roots in as little as three weeks.”

Although other oils like olive oil have amazing benefits, pumpkin seed oil is especially great for damaged hair that needs some TLC.

Abdullah explained, “Pumpkin seed oil is also moisturizing—so it can help stop hair breakage when used correctly.”

To maximize hair growth and have thicker strands, Abdullah recommends incorporating pumpkin seed oil into your nighttime routine.

“Before bed, massage a few drops of pumpkin seed oil into the scalp. Really focus on the areas where you’re experiencing thinning. Once you’ve finished massaging, use your fingers to smooth the oil down your hair shaft. Then brush your hair for complete, but light, distribution.”
