Panera Bread has been a staple in many peoples diets for several years now (including my own). The variety of their food and affordability are some of the reasons why Panera is a powerhouse in the food industry. Even though, they are definitely a healthier option to your standard “fast food” restaurants (think McDonald’s and Burger King) all their food options are not all that nutritious.

If you are health-conscious and looking to stay fit in this new year, definitely stay away from the New England Clam Chowder and the Italian Combo Sandwich on Ciabatta. Aside, from the pastries these are the two unhealthiest food items on the Panera menu. The chowder, even though undoubtedly delicious, will make you pack on the pounds with a whopping 720 calories, 62 grams of fat and 1,020 mg of sodium. The sandwich is equally as fattening with 1,000 calories, 41 grams of fat and 2,810 mg of sodium packed into one tiny sub with a combo of four different meats.

If you are truly looking to stay healthy, substitute a creamy soup for a low fat broth and stick to salad instead of a sandwich!
