“I need new ankle boots,” is a phrase I uttered to my co-workers earlier this season, to which everyone replied “ME TOO!”
Needing new footwear for any season is not uncommon, but why was our entire team in need of the exact same item at the exact same time? Well, for one—fall shoe trends have changed (as they always do). While it was all about mules last year, the black ankle boot is back–and with a vengeance. From combat-inspired lug soles to classic pointy-toe Chelseas, the black leather bootie is having a comeback. And we are here for it.
Also, boots take a beating. Whether you live in a major city where you clock a lot of steps daily, or somewhere rural where Mother Nature presents every type of weather in a single season, boots bear the brunt of all of it.
Whatever reason you need a new pair of boots, I have an important PSA: I found the perfect pair for fall 2019, and they won’t cost you a fortune!
In fact, they’re absolutely affordable and from Steve Madden. Although the Audience black leather boots ($129.95) look like I could have picked them up at Barney’s, they actually come courtesy of one of the most affordable footwear brands of all time.
First of all, they’re sleek. The leather is shiny, but not fake shiny and so far, they’ve held up great to my daily NYC commute and a particularly sloppy girl’s night out.
They have an elastic goring at the ankle, so you can pull them on and off easily. Who has time for zippers?
They have a chunky heel, which is ostensibly because it’s on-trend, but also because it’s quietly so comfortable and sturdy. The toe is perfectly pointy. The ankle comes to a nice closure width above the ankle for a cankle-free zone.
And I’m not the only one who thinks so. The boots have rave reviews online as well. Here’s just a small sampling:
“These are so cute and have an awesome fit especially in the ankle area. The heel is a little bulky but it doesn’t bother me. Overall great fall boot with the heel not being too tall for everyday wear.” —Kelsey C.
“I have been looking for a booty with the right heel and one that holds my ankle and doesn’t look big around the ankle area I have small ankles the only thing is this that the boot runs very very big I had to return them for half size smaller and I still had a little bit of room but sooo comfy cushion inside best ever”—vee
