You know what they say: weight loss starts in the kitchen—but before you get to the kitchen, you have to start at the grocery store. Grocery shopping may feel overwhelming when you’re trying to eat healthy, but the good news is there are so many products on shelves that are as nutritious as they are delicious. This is especially true at Costco.
Just ask weight loss coach Alex Solomin (@alexsolominfitness), who lost 135 pounds through diet and exercise and now helps others do the same. In a recent TikTok, Alex highlights a few Costco products that he frequently stocks up on to stay on track with his health goals. From protein-packed staples to low-calorie snacks, find his top picks below.
Protein
Protein is one of the most integral parts of a balanced diet—especially if you're trying to lose weight. Luckily, Costco offers a plethora of great options. Solomin reaches for the following when he hits the warehouse:
- Fully Cooked Chicken Breast Bites: "These are a cheat code," Solomin says. With only 140 calories and a whopping 24 grams of protein, these bites are perfect for quick, filling meals.
- Kirkland Chicken Breasts (99% Fat Free): Lean, versatile, and great for your health goals—these bulk-packaged chicken breasts are ideal for meal prepping protein-packed lunches and dinners.
- Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt: You can't go wrong with Greek yogurt, and these cups from Oiko are ideal at just 90 calories and 15 grams of protein per cup.
- Fage 0% Greek Yogurt: Prefer plain yogurt? Fage is thick, creamy, and protein-rich, great for customizing with fruit or cinnamon.
- Kirkland Organic Eggs: Eggs are an easy, protein-packed staple. Scramble them, cook up an omelet, or keep hardboiled eggs stocked in your fridge for easy snacking.

Fruits
If you've got a sweet tooth, swapping processed, sugar-loaded treats for healthy fruits can be a major key in your weight loss journey. Fruits add volume, sweetness, and fiber to your diet. Here are Solomin's Costco picks:
- Strawberries: "You can eat an entire pound of strawberries for under 150 calories," Alex shares. They’re hydrating, high in fiber, and satisfy a sweet tooth.
- Raspberries, Blackberries, Blueberries, and Cherries: Berries are great for you! These antioxidant-rich fruits are perfect for snacking or mixing into yogurt. They add natural sweetness without spiking your blood sugar.
- Fruit Salad: Pre-cut fruit salad is a convenient grab-and-go option, especially helpful when you’re short on prep time but want to stay on track.

Vegetables
Vegetables are low-calorie, filling, fiber-loaded, and perfect for snacking at any time of day. For those shopping at Costco for weight loss-friendly foods, Solomin suggests the following:
- Cucumbers: "I eat cucumbers with almost every single meal," Alex says. They’re ultra-low in calories and great for bulking up your plate.
- Wild Wonders Cherry Tomatoes: Packed with flavor and nutrients, cherry tomatoes are an easy add-on to salads and bowls.
- Wild Wonders Peppers: These mini bell peppers make a great snack or salad ingredient.
- Mediterranean Crunch Chopped Salad Kit: When you want a salad but you're too lazy to get chopping, these chopped salad kits can go a long way. Just pair them with a lean protein for a balanced meal.
- Romaine Lettuce: Solomin calls it “crunchy water,” but it’s the perfect way to add fiber and bulk to your salads without adding calories.
- Oso Sweet Vidalia Onions: Solomin says sweet onions are perfect for salads, and we'd have to agree.

Bonus Zero-Calorie Drink: Kirkland Sparkling Water
Now, finally, something for those of us who prefer a special beverage! Sodas, juices, and other sweet drinks can add a load of calories and sugar to your diet, but that's where flavored sparkling water can be a game-changer. "This sparkling water is super underrated," Solomin says. It's a fizzy, satisfying alternative to soda that keeps you hydrated and on track with your weight loss goals. Sign us up!
Ultimately, Solomin's haul proves that losing weight is about eating smarter, not eating less. Time to hit the warehouse!
