We were all over the recent standout cocktail ring trend that let us turn simple outfits into fashion statements just by sliding on some bling. Now we’re noticing statement necklaces, brooches and rings – like the ones we saw on the ladies of Lipstick Jungle last night – that make simple outfits look like you tried much harder than you really did.
We especially love their bold necklaces that fall from about the collarbone to the middle of the chest, avoiding all that confusion that accompanied the superlong necklace trend (Do you knot it? Double it up? Wear it to your knees?). Below, three of our favorite incarnations of the trend statement-necklace, plus some less pricey alternatives.
This Burnished Oval Necklace (was $550, now $275) can be worn over a round-neck t-shirt for some unexpected glamour, or framed by a low-cut dress to add to a more formal look.
The irregularly shaped pearls and smattering of bronze on this freshwater-and-keshi pearl necklace ($233.75) make it modern, so you don’t risk looking like your grandmother – even if you throw it on over a cashmere cardigan.
Vera Wang’s Glass Segment Necklace ($975) has an adjustable-length gold cord – tailor the length to work with whatever top you’re wearing.
To achieve a similar look for less, try layering some of Forever 21’s impossibly inexpensive necklaces – we especially like the Soho Necklace ($7.80) and the Geo Shape Necklace ($6.80)
