The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

The check-in line at Reem Acra was moving just fine – and the woman SheFindsBrynT checked in with even said she loved SheFinds and got our weekly newsletters – but alas, my name was nowhere to be found. Invites and RSVPs don’t always matter during fashion week, and I wondered if “Ashanti’s Mom,” written down for a front-row seat on a piece of paper next to the List, had taken my spot.

But they let me in anyway, probably because I didn’t scream and yell and was wearing all black. And because there were a bunch of empty seats.

The clothes were pretty, with many actually-wearable looks. We especially liked these pleated evening dresses, which remind me of Mariano Fortuny’s iconic, universally flattering and now crazy expensive Delphos gowns.

A few celebrities were in attendance (including Ashanti, as you might have guessed), but as a Gawker reader and fellow alum of my college daily, I was more excited to see sort-of-journalist Julia Allison, who has been posting almost minutely Fashion Week updates here (I'm not always in the front row, but my updates are awesome too).

Our CEO Michelle was worried – actually "deeply concerned for my soul" – that I was excited.

I still like Allison’s outfit. Here she is below, accompanied by the right side of my head.

Get her pink-and-black look in a slightly less loud reverse color palette with this Nicole Miller dress ($165) and Marc Jacobs belt ($178).
