Cute pink shoes, right? If you didn’t know any better, you might guess they were made by the same company. But nope. The kicks on the left are made by popular shoe brand Native Kids and they retail for $34. The ones on the right are Joe Boxer. They’re available at Kmart.com for just $13. Think it’s a coincidence that the shoes look strikingly similar, but the prices are so different? I think not.
I did a little research and found out that Native Shoes was started in 2009. Those Joe Boxer kicks? They’re a “New Item!” at Kmart, so they’re clearly a blatant knock-off.
But I’m wondering: do you care? I watch my wallet as much as the next mom, so if you love the look of Native Kids shoes, but don’t want to spend $30 on them, would you get the knock-offs?
Much to the chagrin of my accountant, I normally tend to bite the bullet and get the originals. Just because I know how annoying it is for someone to totally steal your idea, I prefer to give my cash to the original creators.
What about you? Do you buy knock-offs? Tell us in the comments.
