What To Wear To: A Summer Wedding

Weddings can be a giant source of anxiety – and not just for the bride. Guests can face weeks of frustration trying to figure out the appropriate outfit to wear to the event, since so many elements factor into the decision-making process. Everything from the time of the wedding to the number of guests to the reception location can influence how you choose to present yourself on the big day. Now, of course all eyes will be on the bride, but that doesn’t mean you can’t steal a little attention away with a killer ensemble.

With blazing summer months ahead and weddings popping up left and right (I already have two next month) you’re going to need to know what to wear to a summer wedding. Well, we have the answer.  The best option for day or night is a light, cool maxi dress in a sleek print. Then you can channel nouveau fashion icon Michelle Obama and add a stunning piece of statement jewelry, like a bold bib necklace or red lucite bracelet. Keep it simple yet elegant with metallic strappy shoes, but bust out an black clutch to add some vibrancy and fun to the otherwise formal atmosphere. Finally, instead of the go-to wrap, try a crisp white blazer for those cooler summer nights. It will look stellar paired with your chunky gold bling and flowy feminine dress.

    I need help! I want to wear a red satin gown to my cousin’s wedding, but I’m wondering if this dress is inappropriate for summer wedding? It is an asymmetrical shoulder, half the bust is black lace. It is ruched (sp?) through the bodice, fitted through the waist/hips/butt/thighs and goes just past my knees. Can I wear it to a summer wedding? or should I be shopping for a lighter color/shorter dress in the next few days???

    It depends on the time and venue of the wedding. Is it a day or evening wedding? Is the reception being held in a formal space? The red dress sounds appropriate for an evening wedding and a reception featuring a sit-down dinner. If it’s a daytime ceremony with a more casual reception, I’d opt for a different dress.

    Thanks for all your help! I wore it to my cousin’s wedding and I was a total bombshell! Everyone loved it and I got so many compliments! I was easy to spot on the dance floor, too! Good thing I have some good moves!

    wedding in Aug, at night not too formal.I have 2 dresses in mind.They are both strapless,one is white with a red thick trim on top and bottom of dress,with big red flower print all over with a ribbon type material that ties around my waist.The other is the same thing but it’s black with off white smaller flowers all over it with an off white ribbon that ties around the waist.Which one do you think is appropriate if any
