The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

According to Vogue, Hervé Chapelier tote bags are the next nineties trend set to make a comeback. But Hervé’s weren’t just another trend of the decade, the nylon totes were part of an elite group of items that made up the “It Girl” uniform of the nineties. These must-haves included Prada backpacks, X-Girl logo t-shirts and Superga sneakers, which have all already made their comeback. So it’s inevitable that Hervé’s will be next.

In the 90’s, every popular girl in middle and high school had the Hervé Chapelier on rotation as one of her school bags. Because, of course every it girl owns more than one bag she wants to show off to her friends and classmates. I remember begging my parents for one for my birthday in sixth grade. But when you think about it, why shouldn’t these make a comeback? They are practical daytime bags that come in a variety of colors. You can even say they fit in with the color block trend.

Famous it girls from the nineties included bad gal Kate Moss, tomboy Gwen Stefani and all-around American girl Tiffani Amber Thiessen (who doesn’t still want to be Kelly Kapowski?). The younger set (like me) might think of The Spice Girls and the Olsen Twins as their 90’s it girls. Regardless of whose style you most identified with, all of these celebs had one thing in common. Girls of the ’90’s wanted to be just like them. And how did we achieve that? By shopping for and following it girl trends to separate us from the pack and make us stand out from our classmates, just like these celebrity it girls.

We’ve rounded up a bunch of nineties it girl items we hope make a comeback with the Herve’s. Remember huge white platform sneakers and Swatch watches where you can switch out the watch face for a different color?  What about Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers lip balm? Crop Tops? Acid Wash Shorts? We have all of those and more items that made you the most popular girl in school circa 1996. Click the slideshow and channel your inner ’90’s it girl. Maybe you can help us bring these it girl must-haves back in style so we can rule the world (school hallways) once more.

Love the 90’s? We do too. Check out these other trends from the decade that are making a comeback: Adidas shower slides, jelly sandals and Lisa Frank
