We all love our big-sized pistachio nuts and paper towels at Costco, but some food items are better left not purchased at the wholesale chain, health experts warn.

The top reasons being food waste and expiration dates. Yikes!

“Costco is amazing and one of my favorite places in the world, seriously; but maybe everything doesn’t need to be bought in bulk,” kuudose Celeb Health & Fitness Expert, Joey Thurman, CES CPT FNS tells us.

Here are the foods you should SKIP from adding to your cart next time you’re shopping at the bulk store:

That much fresh fruit and vegetables will only go to waste, experts warn. "The 20lb bag of potato’s may seem like a bargain, but unless you are cooking for a high school cafeteria it’s likely lots of those potatoes will go to waste," Thurman says.

"The fresh fruits and vegetables at Costco are always sold in bulk. However, buying them and bringing them home in high quantities always turns out to be wrong," holistic health expert Alessandra Kessler of Healthy Body Healthy Mind agrees. "Not even half of the products are consumed, and they turn stale. Stale vegetables can be unhealthy to eat."

"These have a limited shelf life, according to the research conducted by the Showbiz CheatSheet on Costco, mustard and ketchup can be used for a larger duration but mayonnaise expires after 3 months by date whereas mustard can go bad in a year," chef and blogger Grace Woinicz of The Brilliant Kitchen explains.

"Flour attracts moisture and will dampen if kept for long periods," warns health and wellness expert Megan Ayala of Patricia and Carolyn warns. "It’s better not to buy more than you need in a specific period of time to make sure it stays fresh and is usable."
