Everyone knows that fast food is bad for you, no matter which chain you prefer. But for many of us, it is a guilty pleasure or indulgence to treat yourself to every so often. And there isn’t really anything wrong with treating yourself to something unhealthy – as long as you don’t make a regular habit of it.

But what most people don’t realize is that some fast food menu items are way worse for you than others. It is easy to have the mindset that if you’re already indulging, you might as well have your favorite thing on the menu. However, you should avoid certain fast food orders because they can seriously harm your health and cause you to feel really yucky for the rest of your day.

It should come as no surprise that the Double SmokeShack Burger from Shake Shack Is terrible for your health. This order is a double cheeseburger (already high in fat and calories), topped with smoked bacon, cherries and the restaurant’s signature ShackSauce. While it might sound like a meat lover’s dream, this 810-calorie meal is not worth the fattening side effects.

This one will probably come as an unpleasant surprise to most people. Panera is one of the healthier-seeming fast food chains, and anyone who has ever ordered their mac and cheese is worth its caloric value. However, most people don’t realize just how high in calories it is. This popular order has over 1,000 calories in a large, not to mention 67 grams of fat and 16 grams of sugar.

McDonald’s Big Breakfast With Hotcakes

The McDonald’s Big Breakfast with Hotcakes looks like a well-rounded breakfast meal, so many people assume that it shouldn’t be too terrible for you. But unfortunately this isn’t true. This breakfast contains 1,340 calories, 64 grams of fat, 2,090 milligrams of sodium and 155 grams of carbs. For comparison, your daily recommended intake of each is about 2,300 calories, 77 grams of fat, 2,300 milligrams of sodium and 225 grams of carbs. So basically this meal accounts for at least two of your daily three.

Sometimes people decide to only order a snack or dessert from fast food restaurants because they think this smaller food can’t be as bad for you as a whole meal. But in reality, desserts can be even worse. The Chocolate Oreo Shake from Burger King has 98 grams of sugar - almost four times your daily recommended intake!
