Regardless of your job, everyone knows that the post-lunch energy slump a major struggle to power through. Getting a second (or third!) cup of coffee is usually what does the trick, but sometimes that energy boost can be fleeting and not help you reach the productivity level you need.

Energy drinks can also work, but the real secret to feeling focused and energized lies in your diet. Instead of fueling your body with temporary energy, try incorporating these healthy foods into your diet. They’re filled with protein and fiber, keeping your blood sugar steady and your mind focused.

Yogurt is an excellent food if you're looking for a quick energy boost. Not only is it the perfect on-the-go snack, but it also contains lactose, a milk sugar, which the body uses for energy. It's also high in protein, which helps slow down the absorption of that lactose and make the energy boost last longer.

sliced bananas

Bananas are another easy snack to enjoy while you're out and about. They're filled with B-vitamins and fiber, which both promote long-lasting energy in the body.

bowl of almonds

Almonds are loaded with magnesium, an electrolyte needed for proper muscle function. Men's Journal notes that studies have found that people with low magnesium levels tend to tire out more quickly during exercise, so you'll definitely want to stock up on some almonds if you need an energy boost.

Almonds also contain niacin, folate, thiamin, and riboflavin and will help your body convert the food you've eaten into energy.

bowl of popcorn

Air-popped (not greasy, buttery movie popcorn or flavored popcorn) popcorn is a surprisingly healthy snack, especially if you need to increase your energy levels. It's considered a whole grain, high in fiber to keep you satisfied longer, and only has about 30 calories per cup, so you can enjoy this snack without worrying about calories!
