Vineyard Vines was started by two brothers.

Vineyard Vines was founded by two brothers, Ian and Shep Murray, who quit their corporate jobs in Manhattan to start their own business.

Vineyard Vines was originally run out of a basement.

The Murray brothers founded Vineyard Vines during 4th of July weekend, 1998. The company originally operated out of their basement.

The company was started with 4 credit cards.

The original $8,000 of capital used to start Vineyard Vines came from maxing out 4 credit cards that the Murray brothers signed up for before quitting their jobs.

The first order sold out in a weekend.

The brothers' first set of 800 ties sold out in a weekend--even though their order came in so late that they had to pay a pilot neighbor to fly it in.

The clothes are based on family favorites.

One of the most popular Vineyard Vines products--the Shep Shirt ¼ zip pullover--is inspired by a favorite sweatshirt of Shep's that he bought in Switzerland when he was young.

Their office is decorated to represent their favorite beaches.

The second floor of Vineyard Vines' Stamford, CT office is decorated to look like the Florida Keys, complete with a tiki bar. The third and fourth floors are decorated to represent the Bahamas and Martha's Vineyard, respectively.
