Marc Jacobs never ever plays it safe. He prefers to enrage his customers (and critics!) rather than acquiesce to the demands of “mainstream” fashion. Instead of focusing all of his energy on his line, he takes time to snap photos of his trendy dogs, start riot after riot on social media, and (most importantly) be himself! The public eye can grow weary, but MJ promises he’ll never cease to surprise us. Here are 8 of Jacobs’ most bizarre extra-curricular activities — how many did you know about?? [Photo: Shutterstock]In 1997, Jacobs opened his first store in NYC. Testament to the glamour and exclusivity of Jacobs’ work, the shop's very first customer was none other than Miss Julia Roberts. Marc Jacobs sent items from his infamous “Grunge” collection to ‘90s punk royalty Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain. Nice gesture, huh? Love later admitted that she and Cobain set the items on fire upon receipt… [Photo: Instagram]
Last summer, Marc Jacobs (the man) made a NSFW social media gaffe when he accidentally uploaded a picture of his naked butt to Instagram. Oops! Jacobs insists he intended to send the photo privately — which would explain the pic’s risqué caption, “It’s Yours To Try.” Like everything in the world of fashion, Marc saw the ordeal not as an embarrassing end to his career, but as a marketing opportunity! A couple months later, Marc Jacobs (the brand) released a T-shirt commemorating the Instagram faux-pas.

Have you ever wondered how Marc Jacobs' Daisy fragrance earned its floral name? I'm guessing no, because it seems pretty straightforward: daisy, like the flower... Nope, this origin story has nothing to do with actual flowers! Jacobs named the fragrance after his bull terrier, Daisy — and he named his bull terrier after Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby. Acclaimed fashion critic Suzy Menkes was NOT pleased with Jacobs' Spring 2007 NYFW show. Menkes published this scathing review in The New York Times after Jacobs' lackluster show started two hours late — he just wasn't ready yet! Menkes went on to say that the ordeal made her want to "murder [Marc] with her bare hands." Sounds bad, but the pair have since made up. Still, tardiness isn't cute, Marc! [Photo: Splash News]
Marc Jacobs doesn’t have a trademark symbol, but if it did, we’re betting it would a bull terrier. Daisy isn’t the only pup to influence the MJ campaign — Marc’s dog, Neville, is also very invested in the success of the brand. He even has his own Instagram account that he uses to don the latest couture and post pic of his #DogSquad. [Photo: Instagram]
Marc Jacobs is known for outfitting the fashion elite — from Victoria Beckham to Miley Cyrus, celebs are always clamoring for a spot in his latest campaign. However, few MJ collaborations have had as much star power behind them as the brand’s work with the iconic Miss Piggy. Jacobs readied the blonde bombshell for NYFW back in 2009, and has since stood by her side. Sources tell us Marc has been an important confidant for Miss Piggy in the months following her split from fellow muppet Kermit the Frog. [Photo: Instagram]
Marc Jacobs is all about the kilt. It’s a quirky and totally singular look, so we’re not surprised that he's adopted it is as his own. The style evolution happened one day when MJ asked his assistant to buy him a pair of “funny pants,” which was apparently interpreted as “kilt”. Looks like it stuck! [Photo: Splash News]
