You’re probably making a few common iPhone mistakes that nearly everyone makes. And the good news is that it’s SO easy to set yourself on the right path and correct these errors. Some of these mistakes can lead to battery drainage, a loss of storage space, and can even compromise your privacy and security

Payette Forward helps by offering nine iPhone mistakes you need to stop making now.

Turning Off Find My iPhone

This tip can save you $1000 — or more. If you don’t have Find My iPhone turned on, Apple won’t always cover any losses you incur should you loss your iPhone. This setting is so important and can save you a ton of time and heartache if you misplace your device. Go to Settings > tap on your name > Tap on “Find My” and make sure this setting is enabled.

Letting Apps Track You

There is no good reason for you to allow apps to track you — none at all. These apps use your data to then sell it to third-party advertisers and make money off of your. Go to Settings > Privacy > Tracking and turn this feature off for all apps or for those you don’t want tracking you.

Allowing Apps To Use Your Location

Some apps require your location to work — like Google Maps or Weather apps. But most do not need your location and few apps need it at all times. Control how apps gain access to your location by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.

Leaving Too Many Safari Tabs Open

It’s so tempting to open up a million Safari tabs as you search for various websites. But having too many tabs open at once can run down your battery and slow down your device. Be aware of your tabs and close those you aren’t using.

Background App Refresh Is Left On

You can control which of your apps you want to refresh at all times, and which don’t require this service. The fewer apps you allow to refresh, the longer your battery can last. Head to Settings > General > Background App Refresh. Disable it or choose which apps you want disabled.

Not Canceling Subscriptions

How many times have you enjoyed a free subscription service that you know you have 30 days to cancel — and then totally forgot to cancel it and are now spending a ton more money than you anticipated?

Go to your home screen and then your name and tap on Subscriptions. Here you’ll be able to see all of the subscriptions you have active at the moment. Cancel the ones you don’t want to use.

Not Updating Your Phone

It’s important to update your phone when new software becomes available. This helps you avoid bugs and viruses and keeps you up to date with any software changes that benefit your user experience. Go to Settings > General > Software Updates and make sure your software is up to date.

Not Updating Apps

Similarly, your apps need to stay updated because app developers are constantly trying to improve popular apps and remove bugs and issues you may have with them.

Go to the App store. Tap on your account icon and scroll down to see which apps need to be updated. You can update them all at once.

Not Cleaning Your iPhone

Are you cleaning your iPhone enough? If not, grab a microfiber cloth and a toothbrush and get to work to avoid bacteria buildup on your device. Remove your phone’s case and clean it with a cloth before taking the toothbrush and gently scrubbing the ports to remove any dust and dirt.

These common mistakes have simple solutions that will improve and enhance your iPhone experience.
