Amazon Prime Members Will Now Be Charged $10 For This 'Free' Perk--And They're Outraged!

Amazon just announced that it will be rescinding its free delivery on Whole Foods grocery orders perk to Prime Members. Yeesh! The Seattle-based juggernaut revealed that $0 delivery days are over, and it will be charging a $9.95 service fee starting on October 25th. Don’t Prime members pay enough in fees?? The e-commerce giant will be collecting a service fee on top of the annual Prime membership charge–and customers are not happy about it. Here’s everything you need to know about this sacred Prime perk coming to an end sooner than you think!

Amazon Ending Free Grocery Delivery For Prime Members

You can start counting down the days until this Prime perk is removed altogether. Bloomberg reported the news on September 24th, explaining that Whole Foods had tested the $10 delivery fee in several markets, and well I guess those people didn’t mind paying extra for delivery because it has since become a countrywide policy.

“Growth of delivery drives operating costs that we do not want to shift to product prices,” a spokesperson For Amazon Inc. said in a statement at the time. Well, that doesn’t make the decision sting any less! Whole Foods was acquired by the online marketplace in 2017, and the free delivery service has been offered at no additional charge to Amazon Prime members–until now. The Prime program currently costs $119 a year. Delivery will still be free for Prime members on orders over $35-$50 (depending on your area), and two-hour delivery is free for shoppers using Amazon’s Fresh grocery service. But still!

Users took to Twitter to express their disdain over the loss of the perk. "That is insane... negates any Prime savings," Twitter user @Kitcheninsta wrote. "Wild that they would add such high fees for a grocery delivery service that has none of the benefits Shipt/Instacart do." So true!

"That's what you do when you have tons of money," wrote another user. "Push out smaller businesses with anti-competitive practices and then raise prices because you have such a large share of the industry." Yikes! The people have spoken and they are not happy to be sacked with more fees--especially in the post-Covid economy.

Amazon--your move!
