5 Things To Avoid At Aldi Because They’re Not Actually A Good Deal

Aldi typically has some of the best deals around—and some of the best bargain products that are just as great as name brands. However, while this beloved grocery store may be well known for their practically unbeatable low prices, there are some prices that are, well, beatable.

You shouldn’t take it as a guarantee that every item at Aldi is going to give you the most bang for your buck. As it turns out, there are a few products that are actually cheaper elsewhere. Below, we’re rounding up a few that you’re likely to find a better bargain for at other stores, from honey to protein powder.

60+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List

1. Honey

We all need a little sweetness in our life, and honey is one natural sweetener that's equally tasty and healthy. Aldi sells bottles of SimplyNature organic honey at around $0.29 per fluid ounce, which is a pretty good deal—but it isn't the best out there. Walmart actually has better prices on honey. You can grab a bottle of Virginia Brand organic honey for 4 cents less per fluid ounce than Aldi's brand. It may be a small difference, but it could add up over time. So, consider saving this sweetener for your Walmart trip!

2. Eggs

Eggs are a staple in most kitchens, so it's important to find the best deals and ensure you're always saving the most money you can when you stock up on this high-protein essential. Aldi's deal isn't too pricy; you can get a carton of a dozen Simply Nature eggs for around $3.85. But there are better deals elsewhere, Za Investing says. Consider Whole Foods, for example, where the same brand is sold for $3.39 per carton.

3. Butter

Just like eggs, butter is a must-have in most households. And if you're a fan of Irish butter, in particular, you may reach for Aldi's Countryside Creamery butter, which will cost you about $2.49. This may sound like a steal, but as it turns out, Kerrygold Unsalted Pure Irish Butter—the real deal!—is actually cheaper at Walmart. The store sells this delicious butter for just $2. Who knew?!

4. Dental Hygeine Products

Aldi isn't just a food store. You can also find personal care items like their Dentiguard dental hygiene products on shelves. But just because these products are at Aldi, that doesn't necessarily make them the best deal around. In fact, Target actually sells cheaper dental hygiene products from their Up & Up brand. For example, Up & Up mouthwash is ten cents cheaper than the Dentiguard variety. it's also worth noting that unlike Aldi, Target runs sales, which could bring their prices down even more.

5. Protein Powder

Fitness fanatic? You may be excited when you see that Aldi carries protein powder, but the truth is that you can actually find cheaper options at other stores. Elevation protein powder is sold at Aldi for $8 per tub, which isn't too bad, but it's not the cheapest variety out there. You can find better deals on Amazon, where Muscle Milk protein powder is sold for just over $6. All in all, it's always worth doing some price comparisons to find the best bang for your buck.
