Detox drinks have gained popularity as a means to cleanse the body of impurities and support weight loss. By combining nutrient-rich ingredients like fruits, vegetables, spices, and herbs, these beverages can help boost metabolism and promote a healthier lifestyle. Certain detox drinks are believed to have metabolism-boosting properties that can aid in shedding excess weight faster.

We checked in with Trista Best, MPH, RD, LD, and Jung Baccam, Nurse Practitioner from Atlas Ketamine, to learn about two detox beverages that can aid in shedding fat and boosting your metabolism. They revealed that green tea and lemon water are two of the best options. Read on to find out why.

Green Tea

Green tea is rich in catechins, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is a powerful antioxidant. Green tea also contains caffeine, albeit in smaller amounts compared to coffee. Caffeine is a stimulant that can temporarily boost metabolism by increasing energy expenditure and fat oxidation. This can result in a slight increase in calorie burning, especially when combined with physical activity.

"Green tea contains a catechin called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which has been shown to have a variety of health benefits, including supporting liver health and aiding in weight loss," Best says. "The liver is responsible for filtering toxins and other harmful substances from the body, and green tea may help to support liver function by promoting the production of detoxifying enzymes. Additionally, green tea has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help to reduce inflammation in the body and support overall health."

She emphasizes that green tea isn't a miraculous remedy for detoxing or shedding pounds on its own. However, integrating it into a nutritious diet and active lifestyle can offer valuable advantages.

Lemon Water

Lemons are rich in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that helps combat oxidative stress in the body. This can contribute to overall well-being and support detoxification processes. Some people find that drinking lemon water before meals can help curb appetite, leading to reduced calorie intake and potential weight loss over time.

"With a hefty dose of vitamin C, lemon water is thought to give your metabolism a little boost. Plus, the tangy citrus might help with digestion and getting rid of toxins," Baccam says.

This combination of hydration, vitamin C, and potential appetite control can contribute to a healthier metabolic rate. She recommends to combine freshly squeezed lemon juice with water. For a bold twist, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper or a drizzle of honey.
