No matter the cause, hair loss is one of the most frustrating beauty issues to struggle with. Whether you have a scalp condition, are tugging too hard while brushing, or are simply experiencing thinning hair with age, it can be difficult to determine the best steps to remedy the problem. Fortunately, over the years a number of serums and products have emerged that promise to regrow thinning hair and add thickness to your existing strands. Not sure what’s worth your dime? This is the best serum for hair loss as recommended by a hair loss expert.

If you’re struggling with hair loss due to any number of causes, from illness to stress or even an imbalance of hormones, the best serum to incorporate into your routine is Minoxidil, otherwise known as Rogaine. Dr. Sunitha Posina explains, “It is an over-the-counter treatment that helps hair in its growth phase for a longer duration of time. The downside is some people may lose hair before they see growth as it accelerates the later stages of hair growth.” She notes that it works by increasing blood supply to the roots, stimulating the follicles and causing regrowth. It’s important to remember, however, that this product can only work if there are existing hair follicles to work off of.

Before you turn to a serum to address your frustrations, Dr. Posina recommends getting checked by a physician to ensure your overall health and possibly determine the cause. “Anytime, if one is experiencing hair loss, it could be genetic or various other factors such as stress, hormonal imbalances, poor hair hygiene/habits, medications and vitamin/nutritional deficiencies...If there are any deficiencies or abnormalities in those tests, it needs to be addressed first. In addition, proper nutrition, avoiding extreme diets and treating hair properly (minimizing heat, chemical treatments, etc) can also help,” she says.

If your hair loss is more severe, Dr. Posina suggests turning towards something a little stronger to help spark regrowth. “PRP treatments are another option I like, assuming that medical conditions are corrected first again if they are present. PRP stands for platelet rich plasma treatment – which involves drawing one’s own blood, then centrifuged, followed by plasma extraction and then injected into the areas of hair loss,” she explains. However, if your hair loss is more thinning than anything, a regrowth serum such as Rogaine will do the trick.

While it may be frustrating to navigate hair loss at any age, there are simple solutions that can be implemented into your routine to regrow thinning hair and confidently rock locks at any state. A good regrowth serum can fill in a sparse scalp and enhance your new strands so they’re thicker and sturdier, protecting against future fallout. Just about every beauty struggle has a simple solution, and Rogaine is the answer to your hair loss woes.
