Even the healthiest of diets can still give way to frustrating and uncomfortable inflammation, making it difficult to see the results of your positive eating habits when your body holds onto bloat. Inflammation can come from a number of causes, from stress and anxiety to an intolerance to certain foods, but the tight, distended feeling is never a welcome one regardless of the source.

However, while there may be foods in your diet that may be causing inflammation, conversely there are ingredients that you can add into your daily routine which may help to alleviate bloating and discomfort, ridding your body of water weight so you can feel your best. If you’ve been struggling with chronic inflammation and are looking for some relief, try adding these four ingredients into your day to day routine for some relief from the pain your bloating may bring you.

60+ Gift Ideas For Everyone On Your List

Bell Peppers

Not only are bell peppers a bright and colorful addition to any salad or taco night, they also contain wonderful anti-inflammatory properties that can provide relief to your body if it is struggling with bloating. Time explains, “Bell peppers—especially the bright-red ones—are high in antioxidants and low in starch. Similar to spicy peppers, sweet bell peppers contain the chemical compound capsaicin, which is known to help reduce inflammation and potentially even pain.” If you aren’t a big spice person, red bell peppers are just fine to add into any lunch or dinner for visible results in bloat reduction.

Berries

As a cure to your insatiable sweet tooth and a valuable addition to your diet for bloating, the antioxidants in berries provide multifaceted relief. Studies have shown that the antioxidants found in berries can have a profound effect on inflammation caused by both chronic illness and regular dietary issues, so throwing them onto your morning oatmeal or eating a handful as a snack can offer great results. An added bonus? Antioxidants are wonderful for your skin as well, keeping you looking young and feeling great.

Turmeric

One of the most well-known anti-inflammatory spices, turmeric is a beneficial addition to any diet. Healthline explains, “Curcumin is strongly anti-inflammatory. In fact, it’s so powerful that it matches the effectiveness of some anti-inflammatory drugs, without the side effects.” Turmeric is a common addition to Indian-inspired meals like curry, but you can also make a nice glass of golden milk each morning to reap the benefits of this anti-inflammatory spice.

Olive Oil

It may come as a surprise but olive oil is actually a wonderful addition to your diet for inflammation, as well as a great source of healthy fat. Healthline reports that olive oil is also high in antioxidants, offering many of the same benefits as berries in your diet provided it’s consumed in moderation. “The main anti-inflammatory effects are mediated by the antioxidants. Key among them is oleocanthal, which has been shown to work similarly to ibuprofen, an anti-inflammatory drug. Some scientists estimate that the oleocanthal in 3.4 tablespoons (50 ml) of extra virgin olive oil has a similar effect as 10% of the adult dosage of ibuprofen.” While 3 tablespoons does exceed the serving size of olive oil, a third of that can still offer great health benefits without overloading your meal with calories, making it easier to lose weight over time.
