Nothing brings quite as much excitement to our hearts as some brand new items at Trader Joe’s. From quirky seasonings to the tastiest ice cream flavors around, this beloved grocery store always gives us something to look forward to. And this summer is no different!
Luckily, Trader Joe’s has a podcast where hosts Tara Miller and Matt Sloan regularly keep us superfans up-to-date on the most recent goodies that have it (or will soon hit) store shelves. In their latest episode, they broke down a few especially delicious-sounding items. With their help, along with @traderjoeslist on Instagram, we’ve rounded up some of the best options to choose from. From the long-awaited return of Ube Mochi to a delectable new cheese, find them all below.
1. Ube Mochi
Okay, so this isn't exactly new new, but Trader Joe's Ube Mochi is definitely a returning seasonal product worth celebrating. Our favorite store is no stranger to incredible sweet treats, and this delicacy is no different. These ultra-popular ice cream snacks are finally back on the shelves, and you'll definitely want to stock up. According to Sloan, the flavor of ube (which Trader Joe's packs into numerous products) is unique: "It’s not like chocolate, it’s not like vanilla, it’s this really interesting thing unto itself." He even goes as far as to call it "captivating," so it's no wonder shoppers go crazy for this sweet frozen treat every year.
2. Strawberry Lemonade Ice Bars
Calling all strawberry lemonade lovers! You'll definitely want to get your hands on these new Strawberry Lemonade Ice Bars. These limited-edition bars come straight from Italy. As the Trader Joe's website says: "We’ve taken the concept of an Italian Ice and turned it on its head—or, rather, put it on a stick. Literally." Made from strawberry purée, lemon juice concentrate, and natural flavors, this is a healthy-ish dessert that will keep you cool on summer days. Miller even recommends blending them into a strawberry lemonade margarita. Sign us up!
3. Chocolate and Vanilla Bean Swirl Gelato
Trader Joe's shoppers can never get enough of their mouthwatering seasonal ice cream flavors. Now, there's a new gelato in town. The Chocolate and Vanilla Bean Swirl Gelato is officially in stores for the summer. Natasha Fischer, a.k.a. @traderjoeslist, shared the good news on her Instagram page dedicated to showcasing the store's newest products. Her only complaint? "Real vanilla bean next time please." (Heads up: this gelato contains gluten, too!)
4. Mozzarella Cheese Pearls
Okay, if you're sick of all the sweet stuff, we've got something good for you, too: Trader Joe's has added Mozzarella Cheese Pearls to shelves that are perfect for all of your summer dinners. Whether you're adding them to a caprese salad or loading your pasta with them, this is some cheesy goodness you'll definitely want on your plate. @traderjoeslist calls it "the perfect match to cherry tomatoes." In the comments, one person announced: "Just ate an entire pack in one sitting." Dangerous!!
5. Organic Mafalda Corta Pasta
Need a little pasta with your mozzarella? Look no further than TJ's brand new Organic Mafalda Corta Pasta. This gorgeous-shaped, short-cut pasta can work in a range of different delicious Italian recipes (maybe some of our favorite healthy pastas?) And it's made in an interesting way, too. According to Sloan, this Mafalda Corta is made with bronze dye that impacts its texture. "If you look at this pasta up close, it's not perfectly smooth," he says. "It's just an amazing way to get the sauce to literally stick to the pasta." We like the sound of that!
