The Worst Time To Charge Your iPhone & Android Batteries
Charging your smartphone may seem pretty straightforward. You wait for your battery percentage to get low, and then you plug it in. Simple, right? While that is the case, you can actually get a lot more out of your battery life when you pay close attention to when you charge your device.
The time of day doesn't quite matter, nor does where you charge your device. Actually, what makes a big difference is the percentage your battery is on, and tech experts have revealed that when you plug in your phone while your battery percentage is super low, you can damage it over time.
"Once your battery reaches this bottom threshold, the speed at which you're charging is fast and clean," says tech expert Rory Bosker with Moken. "Don't wait until it's at 5% or lower, as deeper discharges lead to increased stress to the battery's chemistry."
The Best Time For Charging Your Smartphone
At the end of the day, in order to keep yourself safe, no matter how low your battery is, you should always charge it whenever it needs a charge. After all, no one is perfect. However, if you feel like your smartphone's battery life isn't doing so well, or you just bought a new iPhone or Android and want to keep its battery as healthy as possible over time, there are ways to do it.
"That middle 30%-to-80% zone is where you should strive to keep it during regular use," notes Bokser. Tech expert and strategist Jorge Tijerino with JT4TECH agrees, noting that it's best to charge your phone before it gets too low or too full.
"The best time to charge is when your battery dips into the 20 to 30 percent range," he explains. "Lithium-ion batteries last longest when they're kept in the middle of their charge range instead of being run all the way down or left at 100 percent for hours."
