Burdock Digestion and Health Benefits

"Many people aren’t aware that burdock not only has all 102 minerals in trace amounts, but burdock root helps to sustain and maintain a healthy gut microbiome,” he notes.

This root can “bind to chemical, metal, and synthetic compounds in the body and pull them out gently. It also cleanses the blood and stimulates the lymphatic system.”

He reveals that if you’re looking for a natural and gentle way to clean out your system, burdock is one of the best blood purifiers to add to your diet.

Moreover, burdock contains inulin, a type of prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria in the gut. A healthy balance of gut bacteria is crucial for efficient digestion, reduced bloating, and better nutrient absorption.

It's also packed with anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe and reduce inflammation in the digestive tract, easing discomfort caused by conditions like indigestion, acid reflux, or bloating.

How To Use Burdock

There are several ways you can consume burdock, with each offering its own benefits.

Fresh root can be sliced, peeled, and added to soups, stews, or stir-fries. Dried root is commonly used in herbal teas. Simply steep the dried root in hot water for several minutes. You can also find burdock root powder or capsules as dietary supplements.

Burdock tea is a popular and easy way to incorporate burdock into your diet; it’s typically found in health food stores.

Some people even add burdock root juice or powdered burdock to smoothies, although it can have a strong flavor.

Some things to be cautious about are individuals that may be allergic to burdock or related plants, such as daisies, ragweed, or chrysanthemums. If you experience itching, rashes, or swelling, discontinue use and consult your doctor. As always, check in with a healthcare professional before adding new supplements or foods to your diet.
