In the quest for weight loss, the significance of dinner choices cannot be overstated. Yet, many fall into the trap of indulging in calorie bomb dinners, unknowingly sabotaging their efforts to shed unwanted pounds. These dinners, often laden with excessive calories, unhealthy fats, and refined carbohydrates, pose a significant obstacle to achieving weight loss goals.

We spoke with dietitian Krutika Nanavati and Lisa Richards, nutritionist and the creator of the Candida Diet; to learn about two types of dinners to avoid if you want to speed up weight loss. They shared that frozen pizza and whole wheat pasta are the one to minimize. Read on to learn more.

Frozen Pizza

Frozen pizza, with its convenience and widespread availability, often tempts individuals seeking a quick and easy dinner option. However, despite its popularity, frozen pizza can be a significant obstacle for those aiming to achieve weight loss goals. Packed with processed ingredients, unhealthy fats, excessive sodium, and refined carbohydrates, frozen pizza offers little in terms of nutritional value while packing a hefty caloric punch.

"These pizzas often contain excessive amounts of sodium, trans fats, and refined carbohydrates, which can have negative effects on our bodies," Nanavati tells us. "Consuming such ingredients can lead to inflammation and weight gain, particularly around the belly area."

On top of all of this, there's also the fact that frozen pizza offers very little nutritional value. Nanavati points out that they "tend to lack important nutrients like fiber, protein, and healthy fats, making them a suboptimal choice for overall well-being."

Whole Wheat Pasta

While whole wheat pasta is often hailed as a healthier alternative to traditional refined pasta, it's not necessarily an ideal option for those aiming to lose weight. Despite its higher fiber content and lower glycemic index compared to refined pasta, whole wheat pasta still contains a significant amount of carbohydrates, which can contribute to weight gain if consumed in excess.

Richards notes that while this pasta is high in fiber and low in calories, it can still spike your blood sugar levels if not eaten in moderation. "Whole wheat pasta is a whole grain pasta that's high in fiber and nutrients. However, it's still a carbohydrate that can spike blood sugar levels and contribute to insulin resistance," she says. "If you're trying to lose visceral fat, it may be helpful to reduce your intake of carbohydrates, including whole wheat pasta."

She recommends opting for dinners such as grilled salmon with spinach salad. "Salmon is a good source of protein and healthy fats, which can help reduce inflammation and support weight loss," she states. Plus, spinach salad is loaded with fiber and low in carbs!
