Chrissy Metz Opens Up About Her Emotional Upbringing And Learning To Trust Herself In New Interview
Most people know the body-positive actress from her performance as Kate Pearson in the hit NBC drama series This Is Us, but she's also been making a name for herself as a children's book author. On Thursday, April 10th, she appeared on the daytime talk show, The Tamron Hall Show, to talk to the host about her second children's book, When I Talk To God, I Talk About Feelings.
The emotional subject matter of the book prompted the Nashville-based actress and show host to talk about her difficult upbringing due to the abuse she suffered at the hands of her stepfather, which she wrote about in her memoir, This Is Me and inspired her to write another story for kids.
"For so long, I didn't get to speak my truth, and doing that was very cathartic," she admitted.
The pair also spoke about how she promotes bravery in the children's book, which was published on April 8th, and how her journey helped her write something that would hopefully be encouraging for kids.
"I think confidence is just trust in ourselves," said Chrissy.
"I still, of course, am learning how to be brave about all sorts of things," she continued before talking about how she recently had to push herself to film a movie in South Africa.
The conversation then transitioned into Tamron speaking to the 44-year-old about how she incorporated bravery into her career, given that she has always been outspoken about body positivity and her ongoing, healthy body transformation while receiving hateful online comments behind the scenes.
"I think you have to love yourself for who you are now to get to the place that you want to be, should you want to change," stated Chrissy. "I think that so much of how we feel about ourselves [is what] people project onto us. If we were loved and it was cultivated [and] bolstered, we wouldn't think we were inadequate or less than."
"For me, I just don't take it personally anymore," she continued. "What you think about me is not my business."

Chrissy Says She's A 'Work In Progress' After Losing 100-Lbs With The Help Of A Trainer
Before her interview with Tamron, the children's author revealed in an interview that she had been losing weight and feeling better in her body through the help of a personal trainer and strength training exercises.
"I have always enjoyed strength training," she told the Daily Mail.
"I've always enjoyed lifting weights. Like, I don't want to run unless I'm being chased."
Although the American Horror Story performer has reportedly lost 100 pounds since beginning her new health journey, she denied using weight loss drugs. Still, she said she felt it was "people's personal decision" as to whether or not taking them is right for their bodies and that she doesn't judge them for doing so.
She also noted that her health journey has been more about aging gracefully and getting stronger with age than about her appearance, stating, "I want to age the best way that I can, and I want to be strong."
Despite her amazing transformation and advancement in her health and wellness, she told Tamron that she is still working to improve herself but won't stop striving to love herself no matter what she looks like. She also chooses to disregard any other negative comments that come her way regarding her appearance.
"I'm a work in progress," Chrissy told the television host. "If I want to change, if I want to stay the same, whatever. It's my business."
"I truly believe that if people love and care about themselves, they can't be hateful to you," she added.
"So, I try to have grace and love for people who don't have it for me."
