In an interview with The Sunday Times, Simpson said that his new swimming career was to blame for his dating life. He said that training for the Tokyo Olympics really took over his life; so much so, he didn’t have the time to be in a relationship. "It’s something that not everyone gets, and that was part of the reason I had to end my past two previous relationships,” Simpson told The Sunday Telegraph. "The first one with Miley, I’d just started training towards the end of our relationship and it put me on a path where I realized I was going to go back to Australia if I was going to do it properly," he continued. "I saw all these realizations that maybe it’s time to turn the page in a chapter."
Although Simpson failed to qualify for the Tokyo Games at the Australian Olympic Swimming Trials in June last year, he is now reportedly training hard and looking forward to competing at the Paris Games in 2024.
