Gone are the days of skin-tight skinny jeans (much to the delight of many people, but admittedly, the horror of millennials everywhere!) And in their place, are the more relaxed and more flattering and forgiving cigarette jeans…
Cigarette pants get their name from their slim, straight-leg cut that tapers slightly at the ankle, resembling the shape of a cigarette. They first became a style staple in the ’50s and ’60s, championed by style icons like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. While they once epitomized classic elegance, they later fell somewhat out of favor, partly because their straight, narrow cut doesn’t seem to flatter every body type, making them a slightly controversial and divisive sartorial choice.
That said, cigarette jeans are now having a major comeback, and most people seem to be here for it! Jennifer Lopez famously wore a pair last year, but sparked mixed reviews online, with some critics calling them ill-fitting and unflattering. However, other A-listers are proving just how effortlessly chic they can look, with the likes of Kendall Jenner and Dakota Johnson just being two out of a long list of trendy celebs who are on board. Check out how they have rocked theirs below…
Kendall Jenner
The 30-year-old 818 Tequila founder is the only member of the Kardashian/Jenner clan to appear on Vogue's prestigious best-dressed list this year – and with looks like this, it isn't hard to see why!
The high-earning model rocked her Reformation black cigarette jeans with a simple cropped white tee (a staple in every closet!) and an oversized brown jacket and black belt, as well as complementary black loafers and black sunglasses. Chic and effortless, what more could you want?!

Dakota Johnson
The Materialists actress, 36, also went for an effortlessly stylish look when she stepped out in a pair of light-wash cigarette jeans just a few months ago.
She layered up with an oversized brown faux fur coat, and finished off with a tan tote bag, black sunglasses, and black ankle boots. Her look proves that cigarette jeans can pair beautifully with multiple footwear styles, making them a versatile option for all four seasons.
