Customers Accuse Wendy’s Of Changing Its Pricing Without Telling Anyone

Reddit users recently noticed a sneaky change has been made to the Wendy’s menu: the default for combos is now a medium rather than a small. A user going by the name of lifstyl0916 brought attention to this update in the Wendy’s subreddit on Wednesday, and it looks like the store may have another fish to fry amid the E. Coli outbreak.

Wendy's Combos Are Now Defaulted To Medium

"A Wendy's near me (New England) has changed their menu to default to medium pricing for combos, meaning you have to explicitly ask for small now. Is that the new policy everywhere, or a trial, or one place going rogue?" they questioned, as other users confirmed that the change has been made across the nation.

It gets even fishier than the change to the default though. The author continued, saying "What's sh--ty is the menu still says 'upgrade to medium for $1 extra' which makes you not realize you're already paying for the upcharge." This certainly sounds confusing, which is why some consumers seem to think the fast food chain is trying to pull the wool over their eyes.

The user also notes that they've doubted the integrity of some of Wendy's ordering practices before this, too. "I've always thought it was dishonest when they ask if you want 'medium or large?' like those are the only two choices," they wrote. "They're hoping some people will think those are the only options and not realize they're being sold an upcharge."

Commenters chimed in to say they've also noticed the changes. "Yeah I'm in New England too. My store just started the default medium thing some time between Saturday (my last shift) and today."

Someone else, located in the Midwest rather than New England, echoed the sentiment: "At my store every combo we do is automatically a medium, idk when this started cause I was only gone for two day." They went on to say that their store "started automatically doing that randomly," but customers can still order a small if they'd like to.

Some are shrugging the change off and still holding Wendy's above other fast food chains. "I'm not surprised about the change honestly, McDonald's combos are only medium or large, at least you can still get a small if you want it," one person wrote.

However, one commenter said that their store is doing away with small combos completely, not even giving customers the option to get something besides a medium or large. "I work in one in the U.S and we got told no more small for combos that the small cups only used in biggie bag or large frosty," they wrote.

While some defended the chain, most disapproved of this change. "Today I was able to order a small but if they raise prices by phasing out the small, I'm done going there," one concluded. Yikes! Looks like the store could be losing customers over this.

What do you think about this menu change? Is it shady, or just standard? Let us know in the comments!
