Demi Lovato and Max Ehrich‘s whirlwind romance is officially over–and it’s safe to say that they won’t remain friends.
The couple, who started dating in March and announced their engagement in July, have called it quits after screenshots of Max’s social media behavior came out–and it was cringey to say the least. Not only did The Young And The Restless actor leave flirty comments on several celebrity posts (including Ariana Grande and Bella Hadid), he also compared Demi and Selena Gomez, writing that Gomez was “prettier” than his fiancé.
Though the tweets were old, Demi’s fans were quick to question her (now ex) beau’s intentions with many of them accusing him of using Demi to become more famous. Though Demi originally stuck by her man, she eventually (and understandably) made the decision to end their engagement.

Demi resolved to end their relationship because she realized his intentions were not "genuine."
A source told People, "It was very hurtful to Demi when she realized that Max's intentions weren't genuine."
However, that does not mean she took the decision lightly. The source continues, "Breaking off the engagement was not an easy decision."
However, Demi felt that Max was "trying to further his career by using her name behind her back," which made trusting him impossible.
Demi made her feelings about the breakup clear in her latest single, "Still Have Me." In it, she sings, "And it feels like someone's stolen / All the light I ever had."
Max took a less mature route in discussing their breakup, venting his frustrations on Instagram.

He also claimed that he had only learned of their split through the tabloids though Demi's team denied that accusation.
If anything, Max's reaction to the split only solidified it further, as Lovato "wants no contact with Max at this point," according to an E! News source.
The insider continued, "She is completely embarrassed at the way he's been acting and putting their relationship on blast via social media. She wants nothing to do with him."
