Demi Moore has been considered a stunning woman in Hollywood for decades now, but she recently revealed that she used to go to unhealthy lengths to uphold that reputation.
The Substance actress recently shared in a new interview that she “tortured” herself for years with fad diets and rigorous exercise routines when she was younger to get in shape for a specific role and maintain her status as a beautiful young performer in the entertainment industry. Now that she’s in her 60s, she’s found a new lease on life and how to make peace with her body as is. Read more about what she had to say about her body transformation below.
Demi Moore Reveals She Used To 'Torture' Herself With Dieting And Exercise In New Interview
The Oscar nominee has been praised for her gorgeous looks, famous black hair, and great figure for years. Little did people know, she was suffering behind the scenes to keep herself looking so beautiful, fit, and youthful. In a new interview with People Magazine for their 'World's Most Beautiful' issue, she admitted to pushing herself to intense limits to keep up with the evolving beauty standards in the entertainment industry.
In films like G.I. Jane and some of her other character roles from the 80s and 90s, Demi had to work very hard to keep herself in tip-top shape, but she explained that she often made herself go to extremes to look a certain way and ensure that she "transformed" her body for different projects.
"I did torture myself," admitted Demi in her interview.
She said that she would do "crazy things [with] diet and exercise," including exhausting 26-mile bike rides to Paramount Studios before working a full day not long after having a baby.
The mom of three shared that she did those things because she "placed so much value" on her outside appearance. She also admitted that a lot of her issues with her body stemmed from poor body image and mental health, as she often felt like she was too harsh on herself.
"[I] had a much more antagonistic relationship with my body," she revealed. "Straight up, I was really just punishing myself."
The film that earned Demi her first Oscar nomination, The Substance, was a big moment in her career, as the story addresses the pressure that is put upon women, both young and old, always to look beautiful and 'current' if they want to be successful.

Demi Says She Had To 'Surrender' And Accept Her Body As She's Gotten Older
As her career progressed and she got older, the 62-year-old said she felt "exhausted" after everything she had put her body through and simply wanted to feel at peace in her own skin.
"I stopped trying to control my food, and I had a moment of surrender where I just let go and really understood what it meant to be in acceptance of my body as it is, even though it's not the body I wanted," added the actress.
"I really let go. I remember just asking to be my natural size because I didn't know what it was anymore."
Now, the award-winner is in a much better place with her body and her natural size, as she shared she had a "greater appreciation" for everything it's gotten her through. She added that she feels especially grateful for her body when she remembers that it "grew three human beings" and that her overall health is "really incredible."
However, it doesn't mean that everything is perfect all the time for Demi, as she admitted to occasionally looking at herself and thinking she looks "old." Still, she doesn't let it keep her down for long.
"I can accept that that is where I'm at today and know the difference is that it doesn't define my value or who I am," she said.
