There is so much information out there about all the tips and tricks you should use to lose weight, but not all of them focus on shedding excess pounds safely or healthily.
Sometimes, the easiest and simplest lifestyle changes are the ones that help you achieve lasting and effective results. A dietitian who is famous for sharing her accessible weight loss and healthy eating tips on social media recently shared three simple lifestyle strategies she followed to lose a total of 40 pounds in a TikTok video. Dr. Rachel Paul, PhD, RD, has been open about how much weight she’s lost in the past and makes content for those who want to get slimmer without totally upending their lives.
“I’ve lost 25 pounds in the last three and a half months, and here are three things that really helped me,” she said at the start of her video.
Check out the three tips and tricks that helped Dr. Paul shed some excess weight below.
1. Switch To Lean Meats
As delicious as meat products that are higher in fat can be, Dr. Paul states that switching to leaner sources of protein or buying packages of meat that have lower amounts of fat "really" helped her maintain a calorie deficit.
In her video, she compares a package of 85% lean ground beef to lean ground turkey and notes that the beef is 240 calories per serving, while the turkey is only 110 calories per serving.
"That makes a big difference," says Dr. Paul.
While you can certainly continue to eat red meat, as it's crucial to eat a varied diet, Dr. Paul recommends purchasing meat that's as lean as possible for fewer calories.

2. Buy Single-Servings Of Protein
"The second thing that was really helpful was choosing single-serving proteins," explains Dr. Paul.
"So instead of cooking a pound of ground turkey and then trying to portion it out, buying turkey burgers [has] the portion already set for you."
Other single-serving proteins that Dr. Paul found to be helpful and filling during her weight loss journey included chicken thighs, canned salmon, yogurt cups, hard-boiled eggs, beef sticks, and more.

3. Get In Touch With Your Hunger Cues
If you struggle with eating when you're bored or perhaps simply dehydrated, Dr. Paul encourages you to "get back in touch" with your body's "hunger and fullness cues." Dr. Paul is a mom, and she found that during her pregnancies, she felt "out of touch" with her body and couldn't tell when she needed to fuel herself or not.
"I'll be the first to admit that I did do some overeating during those pregnancies," she jokes.
"Losing this past 25 pounds, I've really gotten a good sense of what hunger feels like in my body and also what fullness feels like in my body."
Dr. Paul importantly notes that you shouldn't be starving while on a weight loss journey, but allowing your body to "experience a little bit of hunger" is okay.
"Then, realizing when your body is full when it's had enough, that's also okay," she adds.
Which strategy do you think you'd try first?
