It seems Donald Trump already has plans for his next construction project following the completion of the ballroom he’s replaced the East Wing of the White House with. Next on the list is what he’s calling the “Arc de Trump,” a monument that would connect the Arlington Cemetery to the US Capitol building—and cost $100M. Keep reading for more information.
@cbsnews A model of President Trump’s proposed triumphal arch to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary was seen on the Resolute Desk as the president held a press conference with FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi in the Oval Office on Wednesday. The renderings and model show an arc that looks similar to France’s Arc de Triomphe, built across from the Lincoln Memorial, on the Virginia side of the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. When asked on Wednesday who the arc is for, Trump told CBS News’ @Ed O’Keefe: “Me.” #news #dc #trump #US #arc ♬ original sound – cbsnews
Trump Announces Plans For ‘Arc De Trump’
An insider speaking to Axios, Trump is full speed ahead on this project, and reportedly is privately funding the project. “It’s what he’s talking about,” the insider said. “There’s a small arch. A middle arch. A large arch. And he likes the large one, of course, as long as it’s big and gold and white.”
His plans are to have the arch unveiled for the 250th anniversary of the United States, which falls in July 2026. The monument would sit in the middle of the Memorial Circle roundabout, opposite from the Lincoln Memorial and facing the White House.
Speaking back in October, Trump said, “Every time somebody rides over that beautiful bridge to the Lincoln Memorial, they literally say something is supposed to be here,” and even showed a few different mockups of the proposed arch.
Social Media Reactions
Across social media, citizens were appalled by the display of narcissism. "This is what dictators do, by the way," one person wrote on X, formerly Twitter, and another agreed: "He's really going all in on the dictatorship."
"He wants to be remembered so badly and he will," another person tweeted. "He'll be remembered as the biggest mistake the US put in the Oval Office!"
"There are children in the US who don't know where their next meal will come from," another person pointed out. "And this is how he's spending $100M?"
"I'm so over it here," agreed another user. "We can't get good healthcare or food but he gets this and a ballroom."
