Many people were devastated when it was announced that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert had been canceled, with CBS claiming that it made the tough decision to do so because of financial reasons. But President Donald Trump was not one of those people!
Au contraire, the 79-year-old president made no secret of the fact that he was delighted by the news and unashamedly celebrated the comedian’s downfall – most likely sue to the negative things Stephen Colbert has said about him over the years. He even went one step further and predicted that Jimmy Kimmel would be the next comedian to have his show axed! Keep reading for more info…
Donald Trump Reacts To Stephen Colbert's Show Being Canceled
"I absolutely love that Colbert got fired," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Friday, July 18th. "His talent was even less than his ratings." Ouch!
He then turned his attention to another late-night host known for roasting him, adding: "I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!"
Trump went on to attack The Tonight Show's Jimmy Fallon as well, and wrote: "Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once-great Tonight Show!"
What Has Stephen Colbert Said About Donald Trump?
The comedian is not a fan of Trump, to put it politely, and has made many digs at everything from Trump's policies to his personality over the years.
One of his most recent jibes came in March this year, after the comedian slammed Trump's "erratic policies." He went on to say that Trump was "not just a sack of incompetence and malice, he's also very thin-skinned."
Fans were quick to applaud him for his monologue in a YouTube comment section. "I'm glad you're willing to call out Trump," one fan wrote. "Sack of incompetence and malice. Well said. Heaven help us," wrote a second, as a third echoed: "A 'sack of incompetence and malice' is how I am going to refer to Dump from now on." A fourth added: "I love this guy. Stephen Colbert is an American hero: not afraid to speak up – and consistently."
Back in 2022, Colbert joked about Trump's apparent obsession with his wealth and reputation after New York Attorney General Letitia James filed a civil lawsuit accusing him and the Trump Organization of massive fraud.
"The one thing he hates more than anything is people hearing he's not as rich as he claims he is," Colbert said, in reference to the news that he had dramatically inflated the values of his assets, including his Mar-a-Lago home.
This then caused Colbert to quip: "Well, of course it's worth less now. The FBI took away all the most re-sellable documents." Zing!
