It took nearly 40 years, but Cher finally made her return to Saturday Night Live.
The music legend took the SNL stage as the musical guest on Dec. 20, marking the show’s final episode of the year. Cher turned heads in a bedazzled silver top that resembled stacked studded belts, layered under a black cropped blazer with strong, structured shoulders. She paired the look with Gen Z–approved black barrel pants and wore her dark hair down in her signature center part.
The episode also featured Ariana Grande, with the two stars posing together alongside the rest of the cast and performers.

Cher Turns Heads With Her Ensemble On SNL
For her performance of her 2023 holiday track, “DJ Play a Christmas Song,” Cher switched things up, donning a short blonde wig and a playful, kitschy ensemble of patterned pants and a leather jacket.
NBC also revealed that the Ariana Grande–hosted episode and the "Believe" hitmaker as the musical guest, averaged 5.4M viewers—making it the most-watched episode of Season 51.
The appearance comes on the heels of reports that Cher is planning to tie the knot with her boyfriend, Alexander “AE” Edwards, 39, ahead of her 80th birthday in May.
“Cher doesn’t give a hoot about their [40-year] age difference and they’re both ready to commit to each other,” an insider told the Mirror. “She sees her upcoming celebration at turning 80 as the perfect time for her and Alexander to seal the deal,” the insider added.
Cher’s representative, however, told Page Six that the reports are “not true.”

The singer and the music producer first met at Paris Fashion Week in late 2022, and their relationship went public that November. After a brief split in mid-2023, the couple reconciled and have continued their romance, fully embracing their nearly 40-year age difference.
They often show affection publicly, make red carpet appearances together, and Cher has defended their relationship, famously stating that "love doesn't know math" and that it’s never too late to find happiness.
While appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the legendary singer said, "On paper, it's kind of ridiculous. But in real life, we get along great. He's fabulous. And I don't give men qualities that they don't deserve."
Alexander "AE" Edwards is a well-known music executive, producer, and songwriter.
Following her performance on the show, the couple was seen arriving at the SNL after-party in New York City.
