Donald Trump has sparked health concerns in recent weeks, after eagle-eyed fans noticed bruises on the back of his hand. His appearance at the G7 Summit back in June raised eyebrows, with many fans taking to social media to point out that the president’s right hand looked swollen and discolored. He has also been photographed with makeup on his hand, in an apparent bid to try to disguise the bruising.

In the interest of “transparency,” the POTUS, 79, reportedly wanted to address the concerns head on – including speculation about swelling in his legs – and allowed his press secretary to share a note from his physician following a “thorough” evaluation. Keep reading to find out all the details…

Donald Trump's Press Secretary Explains Why He Had Bruises On His Hand

"I know that many in the media have been speculating about bruising on the president's hand and also swelling in the president's legs. So, in the effort of transparency, the president wanted me to share a note from his physician with all of you today," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, pictured below with Trump, revealed on Thursday, July 17th.

She explained that the leg swelling was due to chronic venous insufficiency, which is a "benign and common condition" seen in people over 70. She went on to confirm that the bruising on his hand was reportedly caused by "frequent handshaking and the use of aspirin," which he reportedly takes to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Despite the concerns, the president appears to be in good health. Leavitt concluded her statement by saying that after a series of tests and evaluations, "no signs of heart failure, renal impairment or systemic illness were identified."

Donald Trump Was 'Thoroughly Evaluated'

Leavitt's statement went into more detail about Trump's medical evaluation, noting that he had raised concerns about mild leg swelling in recent weeks. "In keeping with routine medical care and out of an abundance of caution, this concern was thoroughly evaluated by the White House Medical Unit," Leavitt explained.

"The president underwent a comprehensive examination, including diagnostic vascular studies, bilateral lower extremity venous Doppler ultrasounds were performed and revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common condition, particularly in individuals over the age of 70."

She also confirmed that "there was no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease." Additional testing included a full blood panel, coagulation profile, cardiac biomarkers, and more, with everything reportedly within normal limits.

She added: "An echocardiogram was also performed and confirmed normal cardiac structure and function. No signs of heart failure, renal impairment or systemic illness were identified."

Donald Trump's Health And Weight Loss

The POTUS does seem to be taking better care of himself these days, and has reportedly adopted a much healthier diet, resulting in a 30-pound weight loss.

Earlier this year, White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella claimed that President Trump is in "excellent health" for his age. According to People, Dr. Barbabella's report on the president's health earlier this year said he is "fully fit" to serve, praising his "active lifestyle" for helping "to contribute significantly" to his good health. We assume his active lifestyle is in reference to his well-documented love of golf!

Leavitt also commented on Trump's health and weight loss earlier this year, and reportedly told The Swamp: "As the results of his recently conducted physical concluded, President Trump is indeed in peak physical and mental condition as a result of his strenuous schedule working 20 hours per day, his exercise on the golf course, and his diet courtesy of the exceptional White House chefs."
