The world was stunned when Donald Trump managed to win the 2024 election despite being impeached twice during his first term as president, and now, it appears that he’s trying to “erase” the situation entirely.
Recently, it was revealed that the 47th president’s name was removed from a presidential exhibit at the infamous historical Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., that listed presidents who were impeached. In a statement released by the press, the museum’s explanation was that it removed his name due to growing pressure from the White House. The incident didn’t come long after Trump passed an executive order that allowed Vice President JD Vance to “remove improper ideology.” Read more about the museum drama and the internet’s angry reactions below.
Donald Trump's Name Is Removed From A List Of Impeached Presidents At The Smithsonian Museum
Not long after it was revealed that the New York businessman was going to be making some changes to the notorious American history museum, it was reported by The Washington Post that his name was removed from an exhibit that listed all of the U.S. Presidents who had been impeached during their terms. Trump made a unique historical milestone as the only president to be impeached twice, yet still managed to come out on top during last year's election.
The exhibit, titled "The American Presidency: A Glorious Burden," has a section designated to impeached presidents, and lists their names on separate labels, including Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon, and more. Although the museum reportedly included a sign in the exhibit that said, "case under redesign (history happens)," one could imagine those running it would not expect to remove a name from it.
At the end of July, the 79-year-old's name was taken down, and when the reports came out, the museum issued a statement via the Post, which read that they removed it "as part of a content review that the Smithsonian agreed to undertake following pressure from the White House to remove an art museum director."

The Internet Reacts To Trump's Name Being Removed On Social Media
The removal of his name from the historical exhibit is not surprising to some, especially after it became clear that he wanted to make changes to the museum's content on his own terms by passing the "Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History" executive order.
However, once it was released that his name was taken down, the internet went into a frenzy, with many left confused, given he was indeed impeached twice, and there's no way to go back in time and change what happened.
One X user posted, "You can't erase history," as another accused the president of "rewriting and erasing history through coercion."
"Unbelievable," commented an Instagram user.
"They should be ashamed," added another. "The Smithsonian is supposed to be the standard."
Another user called the president "shameless," and one called the situation an "absolute disgrace and unacceptable."
The situation with the Smithsonian and the growing pressures from the White House to alter historical museum exhibits and content has many Americans wondering just how far this order can go, and what changes museums will face in the future, if any.
