Dunkin’ Fans Are 'Heartbroken' After It Removes Dunkaccinos Permanently From Menus: 'It Was My Favorite!'

The Dunkaccino has left the chat.

Dunkin’ has officially pulled the beloved drink from the menu, where it was sold for over 20 years since debuting in 2000. From inception, the half-hot chocolate and half-coffee blend stole the hearts of fans across the nation. You might even remember when Al Pacino starred in a fake commercial matching “Al Pacino” with “Dunkaccino” for the Adam Sandler movie, Jack & Jill, back in 2011. With its big screen days behind it, the Dunkaccino has officially exited the many Dunkin’ buildings (there are over 11,000 restaurants worldwide) to rest alongside other discontinued items (like the Oreo Coolata and the Cronut, a croissant donut). Don’t fret though—Dunkin’ has balanced out menu departures with many new arrivals, recently dropping Breakfast Tacos to the menu and selling canned-iced coffee drinks in retailers.

Dunkin Bids Official Farewell To Longtime Menu Option, The Dunkaccino

A Dunkin' spokesperson confirmed the departure to TODAY, stating, "As we focus on innovation and finding new ways to delight guests, we continually evolve our menu in an effort to deliver a fast, frictionless experience."

Don't let go of hope, though, they said: "The Dunkaccino is retired for now, but there’s always the chance for its return in the future."

Rumblings of the Dunkaccino's official departure began a year ago in 2022 when a Redditor leaked an internal memo about items that would be eliminated from the menu, TODAY reported.

Fans Are 'Heartbroken' Over Dunkaccino Departure

As reported by The Sun, fans are 'heartbroken' over the scrapping of the Dunkaccino. Longtime fans of the drink are understandably disappointed to lose the drink—after all, it has been around for two decades. In reply to the news on Reddit, one longtime fan wrote, "Really sucks. It was my favorite." They added, "I’ve tried different ways to make my own version at home with no luck."

For those still wanting the same mix of hot chocolate and coffee the Dunkaccino provided, one Redditor offered a hack: "Order a hot chocolate with a shot of espresso with cream and sugar (or substitute as I do) and it’s very similar taste," they said. "The cashier will certainly look at you weirdly and repeat what you said three times to make sure they’re not going crazy but it’s good, I promise."

Others weren't as shocked by the news. Another user on Reddit replied, "I honestly thought it had already been discontinued. I haven’t seen it anywhere around me in ages." An employee added, "My store hasn't had it for ages, though it's not like they just discontinued it just to make you sad." They wrote, "of the three hundred-ish customers I serve a day, I think exactly one regularly got one, and not even every time."

Seems the Dunkaccino, while once a product of legendary status (thanks, Al Pacino), became just another beloved thing of the past.

Here's to hoping we see its revival someday...
