Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi seemed like they were really enjoying their new life across the pond, showing bits and pieces of their peaceful lifestyle in their English farmhouse. However, the couple just dropped over $20M on a new home…in California. Does this mean they’re moving back to the US? Keep reading for more information.
Ellen DeGeneres & Portia De Rossi Buy California Home After Moving To The UK
Robb Report reported that the couple closed an off-market deal for $27.4M on a large estate in Montecito, California. The home used to belong to producer Brian Grazer, who bought the home in 2012 for $7.6M. The property is over 3 acres and the home is about 8,700 square feet, with a few accompanying structures and a pickleball court.
While that deal is signed and sealed, Ellen and Portia are still waiting for their English farmhouse to sell. They listed the 43-acre property for $30M. They originally bought the large estate because Portia "needed a home that had a horse facility and pastures for them," Ellen has explained.
Whether or not the pair will be moving back across the pond to live in California or are simply expanding their real estate portfolio remains to be seen. However, we do know that it's not all rainbows over in England...

A Clash With Neighbors?
Back when Ellen and Portia will still renovating, there were many reports of arguments with local residents. People from the neighborhood they moved to began speaking up after the couple started renovating the large farmhouse and adding an extension, as there were some beliefs that they were living on or near historical Roman remains. They were pretty busy with the way they altered the home, reportedly adding an indoor swimming pool, gym, and more.
Residents worried that the extension to the old house may increase the risk of flooding, subsequently increasing the risk of harming the Roman remains. A letter from their area's parish council read, "Concern was expressed by residents that the hedge and wire fence could increase flood risk in the village if rubbish was swept down and 'caught on the fence,' thereby 'limiting flow across the field."
Although all the concerns were allegedly dismissed with the discovery that the Roman remains were actually located 200 yards away from their property, some are speculating that the clash with local residents may be the real catalyst behind why Ellen and Portia are buying more real estate.
