It may not be as unexpected as Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau‘s shock romance, but we are still somewhat surprised to hear that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi may be returning to the U.S. while Donald Trump is still in office. Something they vowed they would never do!
If you recall, they left the country for the U.K. after Trump was re-elected, and made it pretty clear they would only return when he left the White House.
Their U.S. departure also coincided with the comedian and former talk show host being cancelled by Hollywood following toxic workplace allegations. So what’s changed? Keep reading for all the details…
Are Ellen DeGeneres And Portia De Rossi Leaving The UK?
According to reports, both Ellen and Portia may have initially been drawn to the quiet charm of the English countryside, but it's a stark contrast to their glittering former life in Hollywood. And as a result, an insider recently claimed to RadarOnline the pair are both "bored out of their minds." Yikes!
"Ellen thought putting an ocean between herself and Hollywood would give her room to reset, but a year on, she's learned that breathing space isn't the same as forward motion," an insider claimed.
Referencing their new life in the Cotswolds, where the likes of David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Hugh Grant, and more also have homes, the source continued: "The quiet is driving her nuts. Portia's restless, Ellen's restless, and they both feel their careers have been left sitting in the dark."
Speaking of their careers, the insider hinted that they could be working towards reigniting their careers, adding: "Ellen and Portia miss their crowd, that spark – the whole ecosystem they built in Los Angeles. They want to plug back into it."

Ellen And Portia Miss Their Friends, The LA Weather & More
It's not just their careers and the fast-paced, glamorous lifestyle they miss. Another source told the Daily Mail last month that they really "miss their friends" in the U.S., and are looking forward to reuniting with them over the holidays. Whether their Christmas visit will become permanent, or is just a temporary return until they get things in order, is currently unclear.
"Ellen was adamant that she and Portia were going to stay in the U.K. while Trump was in the White House, but evidently she's changed her mind somewhat," a source told the pub, before noting that the warmer Los Angeles weather is a major draw.
They added: "She's been telling friends they are coming home soon because they miss them and can't take the winters over there, and Portia wants to act again. They will be here for the holidays and longer by the sound of it."

Ellen DeGeneres Referenced Being 'Bored' In The UK On Stage
This isn't the first time the Finding Dory star has alluded to not one hundred percent loving life in the U.K., as she referenced her boredom on stage back in September. "I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens, but I'm a little bit bored," the former Ellen DeGeneres Show host confessed.
"She wasn't exaggerating. She's craving a real platform again – something beyond those middle-of-the-night L.A. Zoom sessions," an insider, said to be a close friend, reportedly dished.
Another insider went on to say that Portia basically feels the same way, adding: "Portia didn't think she'd miss any of it, but sitting around while Ellen's tied up on nonstop Zoom calls has made her reassess. She wants direction again – something creative, something out in the world." Will Hollywood let them back in? Only time will tell!
