The famous widow recently posted a long video for her husband’s organization, Turning Point, to address all of the internet backlash and conspiracy theories she’s dealt with following his assassination. Despite the emotional context of the video, internet users couldn’t get over her wardrobe choice, which was a long-sleeved, all-black look paired with a black baseball cap. There's been a whole lot happening in the world of American politics, from a scary shooting during the White House Correspondents' Dinner to an official state visit from King Charles and Queen Camilla. One notable face during it all has been Erika Kirk, the wife of the late conservative media personality and Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk.
Since Charlie was shot and killed on a college campus last September, his wife took over as the CEO of his organization and was thrust into the spotlight, making controversial and unconventional appearances at political events and Turning Point summits. Aside from her "WWE-style" entrances at events and unusual widow behavior, internet users have also been commenting a lot on her style.
She really turned heads this week, when she posted "A Message From Erika Kirk" on Charlie's YouTube page, addressing the backlash she's received for her behavior in public since his passing, as well as theories and speculation that she might've played a part in his death. In the video, she wore a long-sleeved, satin black top with a turtleneck. She had her long blonde hair tied back into a ponytail and sported an all-black hat with the word 'freedom' on it.
"Seems to me that nothing will ever be enough for the evil in this world. Our country has become unrecognizable," she says in the ten-minute video. "These people have perverted the truth to the point that they motivated the murder of my husband. They have continuously tried to assassinate the president. And anyone who stands in their way is labeled hateful, racist, fascist, and every other trigger word that is grossly dishonest."
Social Media Users Slam Erika & Accuse Her Of Dressing Like 'An Assassin'
After her video was uploaded and shared, it didn't take long to go viral, and the mom-of-two was suddenly making an increased amount of headlines again. It was also an important moment, as it was one of the first times she acknowledged the latest wave of scrutiny she's received, as well as the Correspondents' Dinner shooting, for her Turning Point USA audience.
Though a lot of what she said sparked an online conversation, many people were hung up on what she wore during the video. Many felt her choice of a black turtleneck and black baseball cap to be off-putting, due to it looking like someone trying to disguise themself, or someone who was about to carry out a crime, something she denounced in her video.
Social media users continued to slam the 37-year-old on various platforms, not just for the subject matter of her video, but for the ominous outfit she wore for it.
"Erika Kirk literally dressed as an assassin to tell us all she didn't kill her husband," wrote an X user.
"You can't make this stuff up," responded another.
"She's just so absurd," commented a user. "Every decision she makes is just the wrong one. Super weird."
"Who in the hell told Erika dressing and speaking like this was a good idea?!" asked another. "They are really stupid, or they want her to fail!"
