Nicole Kidman has been in the headlines all week after making several appearances at the Cannes Film Festival, but one of them was slightly overshadowed by a wig mishap that some internet users aren’t letting her live down.

While attending the Kering Women In Motion Awards as part of the Cannes Film Festival, the actress seemingly wore a long, strawberry blonde wig, which people gathered was not her real hair after certain photographs exposed her wig cap underneath and, at some points, her hair appeared to be slightly off center. The exposing photos didn’t come long after she sported a two-toned pixie cut at the Met Gala, which is another reason why people are certain she had on a wig at Cannes. Although some internet users teased her for the mishap, loyal fans of Nicole’s quickly defended her.

Nicole Kidman Seemingly Has A Wig Mishap At The Kering Women In Motion Awards

On May 18th, numerous prominent female celebrities who participate in all forms of media, like Charli XCX, Halle Berry, and more attended the 2025 Kering Women In Motion Awards, which is a special dinner and gala that takes place during the Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera.

It's an important event that celebrates women in the entertainment industry, and this year, Nicole Kidman was one of the stars recognized for all her work alongside female directors. In 2017, the Big Little Lies performer announced she was on a mission to work with at least one female director every 18 months, and since then, she's collaborated with more than 25, which is one of the reasons why she was honored at this year's gala.

While standing on the red carpet, Nicole stunned in a long, sheer red gown made from a lace material. It had a lovely subtle mermaid silhouette with a turtleneck, and later in the evening, she changed into a hip black leather jacket and jeans. She decided to wear her hair down and straight, and it was a strawberry blonde color, which was much different from the two-toned pixie cut hair she sported during this year's Met Gala that fans loved. However, once a few flash-photography shots of her at the Cannes event were posted, people were convinced that it was not her real hair.

In several shots of the filmmaker on the red carpet, it looked as though her hairline was slightly off-center and askew. In other photos of her from different angles, some people could spot a flesh-colored, mesh wig cap peaking out from under the strawberry blonde locks. Two days later, she shared several personal photos of herself spending time in France, swimming and enjoying some time with actor Pedro Pascal, where her natural hair was more visible and light blonde.

The Internet Reacts To Nicole's Wig Photos And Fans Defend Her From Mean Comments

Once pictures of the mom of four at the Women In Motion Awards were shared online, several media outlets and other internet users began calling her out on her "exposed" wig.

Platforms like Instagram were filled with close up pictures of her, where people took to the comments section to talk about her hair. One Instagram user wrote that it looked like Nicole didn't know how to "install or maintain" her wig, which is why it may have been obvious that night.

"What!" commented a fan.

"She wears a wig?"

When these comments flooded social media, and more outlets began calling attention to the subtle red carpet mistake, fans of Nicole's and other fed-up internet users started defending her, noting that the mishap simply proves she's human and that these things happen. Therefore, they shouldn't be a big deal.

"No worries, she's human," wrote an Instagram user.

"We all have bad hair days."

"Leave her alone," commented another. "She is super talented and gorgeous."

"Honestly, even the most glamorous stars have their moments," noted a user.

"Nicole's still stunning—wig mishap or not."

The consensus amongst fans of the award-winning actress is that wig or no wig, pixie cut or no pixie cut, she is still a gorgeous figure in Hollywood, and more focus should be on her accomplishments.
