Have Fine, Weak Hair? A Stylist Shares The 'Life-Changing' Haircut That Can Give You 'Massive Volume & Thickness'

Anyone who has naturally fine, thin hair knows how challenging it can be to create — and maintain — volume when it comes to styling their tresses.

Hair stylist and expert Gabriela Soares shared a YouTube video in which she showed her favorite shoulder-length and flattering haircut for this hair type, deeming it to be “life-changing” and voluminous.

In the vid, Soares headed to the salon and filmed herself getting her locks cut into a “long bob” that ended at her collarbone. She also got a face-framing, “long curtain fringe” at the front of her face to create more volume and the illusion of thicker hair.

Because there are no layers in the cut, Soares notes that “every single section of hair meets at the exact same point.” When you have fine hair, “if you do this, your base line will look much fuller, which will trick the eye into thinking that the hair itself is thick,” she says. She stresses avoiding layers and instead recommends a more blunt look.

Soares describes this blunt, layerless lob cut (as seen on Scarlett Johansson above) to be an "amazing illusion for fine hair." The shorter that base line is, the "thicker your hair will look," she advises.

After Soares' hairstylist could be seen cutting the base line and front pieces of her hair, she then headed towards the back, and "cut up into the hair to ensure that there is no graduation, no layering, and to make everything look super square."

When it comes to the face-framing, long curtain bangs (a la January Jones) that Soares recommends adding, she says: "it's not a big section that I have cut, but it's enough to give me versatility and framing in my styling while still maintaining a baseline at the front of my hair."

"This really is the perfect haircut if you have fine hair because it is not limiting," she concludes. She also adds that it "gives you the illusion of fullness while still giving you a ton of flexibility in your actual styling."

Overall, in the video, Soares also showed how many different hairstyles she was able to sport with this cut, from french braids to updos to loose curls and straight locks. By not getting layers and instead focusing on a thicker, more blunt base line for the lob, she showed just how flattering this celeb-fave cut can be!
