Fans React to Gigi Hadid’s Walk at the Moncler Show
Plenty of big names were in attendance, including Alessandra Ambrosio, Jennie Kim, Maria Sharapova, Odell Beckham Jr., Orlando Bloom, Penn Badgley, Vincent Cassel, and more.
However, it was Gigi who drew the most attention—and backlash—after walking the runway. She modeled a brown-and-green collared jacket with fringe detailing along the front, pockets, and belt that cinched her waist. The look was paired with baggy green trousers, lace-up winter boots, gloves, and a helmet carried in her hand.
Unlike a traditional straight runway, the catwalk was curved and completely covered in snow, and fans were quick to point out that her walk seemed off.
Taking to Instagram, users commented, “What is this walk?” Another wrote, “That is the most elephant-like walk I’ve ever seen.” One critic went on to say, “Um, no, she’s a model; it’s not supposed to look like you or I walking off the mountain after skiing. She’s a top model; she’s supposed to project supreme confidence, poise, and a controlled, rhythmic stride. Naomi, Linda, Christy, and Cindy would never come clumping down like that. The mother of one has been in the modeling industry for more than a decade. Despite the backlash she’s often faced—whether due to her famous parents or criticism of her runway walk—Gigi has taken time to reflect on the early days of her career. She previously shared that booking her very first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2015 was a true “dream come true.”
In October, during an interview ahead of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Gigi opened up about her younger self. “I'm just so happy for her,” she tearfully shared, recalling how she “went to a lot of go-sees” and “tried out two or three times” before finally landing the coveted gig. “She just wanted it so bad. I look back at pictures of that time, and the world was so hard on her—and not just me, hard on girls.”
Reflecting on photos from her first time walking in the VS show, she added, “That was an awesome time. I deserved to be there and to continue to come back to this show. I'm just so happy for that girl that got the first show, and also my teenage self who watched the show.”
