Bella Hadid, 26, isn’t the only Hadid girl to undergo a huge transformation right before our very eyes, as older sister Gigi Hadid, 28, is also looking quite different to the teenager we once saw in a scene involving mom Yolanda Hadid on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills all those years ago. Is some of the change in Gigi’s appearance simply down to her getting older and becoming a mom herself, or has she taken a leaf out of younger sister Bella’s book and had some help, shall we say, along the way?
We know that Gigi and Bella have some great genes – we’ve seen their supermodel mom after all, and know that good genes definitely run in the family – so could her 2023 appearance simply be down to genetics? The internet, as expected, had a lot of thoughts!
Gigi Hadid's Appearance Is Discussed On Social Media
It's not just Gigi's face that has changed over the years though. We’ve seen the catwalk model’s body change during and after pregnancy – she shares two-year-old daughter Khai with ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik – but that’s not the only time her appearance has changed throughout her career.
Like most people, Gigi’s weight has fluctuated over the years. On August 16th, the Instagram account @celebface posted a multi-photo carousel of comparison photos of the mom-of-one to show just how much her body has changed from her early career to the present day. In the comments section, some fans thought that becoming a mom was one of the biggest causes for the change in Gigi’s body (as opposed to anything surgical) with one saying, "Pregnancy and breastfeeding change your body quite dramatically." Others thought it had something to do with getting older, while a few others even thought it was having implants, and then having them removed, with one fan writing, "I think she got implants and had them removed." Our favorite comments, of course, were the ones that stated that Gigi looked gorgeous in every single picture, with "She’s beautiful now and then," and "She's forever gorgeous," being just two examples.
As for how Gigi got her pre-pregnancy figure back after the birth of her daughter, most fans thought it was down to good genes, with one fan writing: "After I gave birth, about 2 months later I lost over 20lbs naturally. I’m genetically thin, with a fast metabolism and was 29 at the time. I looked as if I never gave birth and I’m at a lower weight now than I was before pregnancy. By a lot. Just stating this because some women do naturally lose the weight fairly quickly, with genetics at play, stress, postpartum etc. Idk if this is the case with her, but just thought I’d share."
Gigi Hadid Addresses Weight Loss
There are many people who think the biggest change to Gigi's appearance was her weight loss. Back in 2016, an already very trim Gigi lost a noticeable amount of weight before walking down the Victoria's Secret runway. But she told fans that shedding the pounds wasn’t actually intentional, as she confessed that she had been diagnosed with a thyroid disease that affected her metabolism and therefore led to unexpected weight loss.
"My metabolism actually changed like crazy this year," she told Elle at the time. "I have Hashimoto’s disease. It’s a thyroid disease, and it’s now been two years since taking the medication for it, so for the VS show I didn’t want to lose any more weight, I just want to have muscles in the right place, and if my butt can get a little perkier, then that’s good."
She also addressed her weight loss due to Hashimoto's disease while talking to Vogue Runway Director Nicole Phelps during a panel alongside Kendall Jenner, Ashley Graham and Paloma Elsesser. "I loved my body when I was curvier," she said at the time. "Then as I lost [the weight], people were still mean," she continued, adding, "Yeah, I know I’m skinny. I’m looking in the mirror. I’m trying to eat burgers and do squats. I want an [expletive] too. I get it. I got it. Thank you!"
Gigi Hadid Talks About Her Body In 2023 'Times' Interview
Gigi has been modelling since she was 18 years old, and made her runway debut at the Fall 2014 Desigual show during New York Fashion Week in 2014. She had a killer supermodel body right from the start of her career; but earlier this year, the Guest in Residence founder confessed that she now looks at her body very differently to the way she used to...
"I was probably harder on my body than I should have been," she said in a March 2023 interview with The Times while reflecting on her past modelling days. "I wasn’t starving myself but I was very routined." She went on to say: "Since then I’ve got into this idea of body neutrality. I love my body for what it has done but I’m not obsessed with it."
