If you’ve been cleaning out your kitchen for the new year, there’s one more thing to add to your to-do list: check to make sure you don’t have a portion of the nearly 7,000 pounds of ground beef recalled for potential E. Coli contamination stocked somewhere in your freezer.

Last Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that 6,768 pounds of raw ground beef from Valley Meats have been recalled. Find all the details—including what to do if you’re in possession of this meat—below.

"FSIS is concerned that some product may be in institutional or restaurant refrigerators or freezers. Restaurants and institutions are urged not to serve these products," they wrote. "These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."

If you recently bought any of these products, you should either discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase.

Luckily, no illnesses have been linked to this recall yet. However, taking recalls like this seriously is an important part of keeping you and your family safe. E. coli poisoning symptoms include dehydration, abdominal cramps, bloody diarrhea, and potentially even kidney failure. Young children and older adults are especially at risk.

The FSIS advises people with food safety questions to call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or email [email protected].

Other recent recalls include fruit puree pouches with high amounts of lead and TGI Fridays frozen chicken bites that may contain bits of plastic. Stay safe!
