Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton may be engaged but that doesn’t bar them from partaking in some light public ribbing, as seen during the Super Bowl commercials this past weekend. In a T-Mobile ad that aired during the Super Bowl on February 7, Stefani and her The Voice castmates Adam Levine and Blake Shelton constructed an imaginary timeline of the beginning of Stefani and Shelton’s relationship, with Levine playing matchmaker. And unlike in real life, Stefani had some shady things to say about her partner!

In the commercial, Stefani from “a few years ago” calls her old friend Adam Levine to ask his advice for getting back into dating. She begins to describe her ideal guy, but because the phone connection is bad (enter T-Mobile), Levine gets his wires crossed with her requirements.
Stefani says, “I'm sick of L.A. guys. I want someone completely different. Maybe someone from another country and someone cultured and sensitive and who is not threatened by a strong, confident woman.”
However, Levine hears, “I want someone completely country, uncultured and threatened by a strong confident woman,” and thinks Shelton will be the perfect guy. When Stefani shows up to their “first date,” she is visibly surprised, saying, “Blake? Um. Hilarious, right? I mean, no?” Shelton responds, ”What do you mean?”
“Are you wearing spurs? Did you ride a horse here?” Stefani prods, and Shelton exclaims, “Yeah!” After which T-Mobile cuts in, saying, “Don't trust your love life to just any network,” and Shelton offers Stefani a ride home, presumably on his horse.
Shelton and Stefani have actually been together since 2015, and celebrated their engagement in October 2020, with Stefani rocking a massive ring on her finger. Clearly Levine was on to something with this pairing!
