Gwyneth Paltrow Slammed As 'Insufferable' And 'Tone Deaf' As She Plugs New Skincare Line In 'People': 'Who Cares?'

This week’s People magazine cover story is all about Gwyneth Paltrow and everything that’s going on in her life now that she’s turned 50 years old. Namely, her company Goops’ new skincare line, her marriage to and blended family with Brad Falchuk, and her teenaged children leaving for college. But many readers weren’t too impressed by Paltrow’s story, and called her “tone deaf” and even “insufferable” in Instagram comments.

Gwyneth Paltrow is not a stranger to backlash from fans. Over the years she’s put out some questionable products (This Candle Smells Like My Vagina, anyone?) and said some questionable things (this past March she announced on TikTok that the only things she eats in the first half of the day are “coffee” and “bone broth”).

Gwyneth Paltrow's 'People' Cover Story

Speaking about shifting into her fifth decade of life, the mother-of-two said, "I had the erroneous idea that I would be able to downshift a little bit. But life is very full-on. It's been very intense."

One of the big things going on in her life is the launch of her new skincare line good.clean.goop, which includes exfoliants, moisturizers, serums, and cleansers. "We felt passionate about creating clean, efficacious products a more accessible price for a broader audience," she said about her choice to move into the skincare industry.

"They call it 'masstige' in the industry. I love that word, between 'mass' and 'prestige.' So we set out to create this, and it's been so much fun."

Gwyneth also talked about day-to-day life at the "Faltrow" residence, which she calls her home that she shares with Brad Falchuk, who she married in 2018, and their combined four children. About the blended family, she says, "It's hard, and it's not intuitive, and nobody tells you how to do it."

But, it seems like she's gotten the hang of things. She continued, "You just stick with it. Now it's one of the things that brings me the most happiness in my life."

Gwyneth's children, Apple, 19, and Moses, 17, and Brad's children, Isabella, 19, and Brody, 17, are all either in college or about to be, so Gwyneth has been preparing herself for an empty nest. "I'm trying to reframe it so that I can at least try to convince myself there's some kind of a silver lining," she says. "Empty nest sounds so sad and lonely."

But regardless of the many things going on in her life, Gwyneth is excited. "I believe that life, especially for women, comes in chapters," she says. "This is really going to be a new chapter for me."

Fan reactions

Fans of People magazine did not take kindly to Gwyneth's cover story, and flooded the comment section on People's Instagram post promoting the story with their thoughts. "Everything about Gwen is tone deaf," one user posted.

"Insufferable. The first word that immediately springs to mind," added another.

"Who cares?" asked another.

"No one cares," a fourth responded.

"Paltrow is a pretentious nepo elitist goop extortionist," said another scathing comment.

"So not interesting!" posted one user.

A final fan addressed People directly: "People magazine, your worst cover story this year."
