It’s well known that vegetables are some of the most nutritious foods to regularly include in a balanced diet for weight loss, offering a variety of vitamins and minerals to help improve your immune system, boost your metabolism, and even promote increased fat burn. Not only are they versatile in the ways they can be prepared, but veggies can also add density to your meals without overloading your body with calories, making it easier to maintain the necessary deficit for weight loss.

While all vegetable variations make for valuable additions to your diet, there are some veggies which naturally offer more health benefits than others, cutting through inflammation in order to eliminate water weight and reveal the results of your hard work without holding onto bloat. This summer, there’s one veggie you should be throwing on the grill at cookouts and making as a side dish to compliment your meals to help you achieve the weight loss you’ve been working towards with ease.

Asparagus

Packed with vitamins and nutrients such as fiber to help keep you full and reduce overeating, asparagus is one of the best vegetables you could eat to cut through bloating and inflammation. Easier to digest than other varieties of vegetables, asparagus can not only help to promote healthy digestion, but it can also reveal a flatter stomach in fighting off bloat. “[Asparagus] contains prebiotic fiber, which is the fuel that probiotics need to help promote gut health and neutralize toxins,” explains nutritionist Heather Hanks. How easily you can digest any given food is highly dependent on the type of fiber it contains, and asparagus is rich in prebiotic fiber which is easily broken down in the body.

If you have a tendency to hold onto inflammation you may find it difficult to know just how much weight you actually need to lose in order to live a healthy lifestyle. Prioritizing foods which can help to reduce bloat will not only allow you to feel better in your body, but they can also give you a better picture of the foods you should consider removing from your diet. While delicious, foods that cause inflammation can act at a detriment to your health over the years. Fortunately, asparagus is a low-calorie veggie which will fill you up and increase satiety, reducing overeating which can help to promote full body weight loss.

Antioxidants are also essential for enhancing your overall health and eliminating inflammation, and asparagus is loaded with them. “These include vitamin E, vitamin C and glutathione, as well as various flavonoids and polyphenols. Asparagus is particularly high in the flavonoids quercetin, isorhamnetin and kaempferol. These substances have been found to have blood pressure-lowering, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anticancer effects in a number of human, test-tube and animal studies,” Healthline reports. Other antioxidant rich foods which may help with bloating and chronic inflammation as well are berries, pecans, and kale.

While there are other anti-inflammatory vegetables you could include in your diet for healthy weight loss, asparagus is one of the best for providing a variety of vitamins and minerals to your body along with great flavor. Steam with garlic and butter for the perfect side to salmon or another lean protein, or enjoy with pasta to add a healthy serving of veggies to any dish. Asparagus is even great served with eggs if you’re looking for easy ways to eat more vegetables in the morning. Low in calories and high in vitamin C, A, and K, asparagus is the ideal anti-inflammatory veggie to cut through bloat and achieve full body weight loss with ease.
