It’s no secret that there are millions of us who own iPhones, and likely can’t imagine life without them. However, when you use them improperly, they won’t last very long.
There are few things more frustrating as a smartphone owner than having your battery frequently die on you. Although many people want to jump to conclusions when this happens and assume there’s something wrong with their device, there’s a good chance their daily habits are what’s hurting their batteries. We spoke with tech expert and founder of The Big Phone Store, Steven Athwal, about two iPhone habits you might be practicing that can drain your battery. Read more about them below.
1. Keeping Your Display Too Bright
While it can be nice to have a super bright phone for when you're scrolling on social media, watching a video, or FaceTiming someone, consistently keeping your iPhone's screen super bright can be tough on its battery and deplete it over time.
"Manually maintaining high brightness screen levels or preventing your phone from automatically dimming or adjusting to ambient light uses more power than necessary," says Athwal. "Just enable auto brightness and try to keep your brightness as low as possible to save some more battery."

2. Keeping 'Background App Refresh' On In Your Settings
When tech experts take a look at iPhone settings that can easily drain your battery, they often bring up Background App Refresh, which usually has your phone working overtime to keep your apps updated by refreshing your social media feeds, keeping your inboxes up to date, and more.
"Allowing your phone to update content even when you're not actively using the app continuously wakes up the CPU, accumulating significant power use," explains Athwal. "Turn off background app refresh for nonessential apps to help alleviate."
Adjusting these two iPhone habits can easily help your battery stay healthy and prevent it from constantly depleting. Additionally, you should ensure you're using healthy charging habits to keep it as young and new as possible.
